Not to take anything away from his learnings, because he has managed to pick up the game far quicker than any of the friends I've helped - but I assume that his prior experience with the VTOL VR game helped. Although not at the same level of complexity, it should still give some kind of framework and basic knowledge in many fields. A framework which you could then build on and help expand with your experience.

"Just an AI" dude the AI in DCS is no joke lol
@JETZcorp5 жыл бұрын
DCS AI are interesting. On the one hand, in terms of tactics they are total boobs with the intelligence of a calculator. In a plane that sticks out its chest and smashes people (Eagle, Tomcat, etc) it's not tooo hard to pin them against the ropes and make them an offer they can't refuse. But if you're in a plane that relies heavily on stealth and deception (Mirage, Flanker, etc) then you quickly discover that the AI have Godlike omniscience. Hiding behind a mountain? They see you. Firing a silent heatseeker into their blind spot? They react instantly. I like to think I'm pretty good in the Mirage. Online I can deceive F-14 pilots all day. I play them like the Raptors in Jurassic Park (you're looking forward, but the attack comes from the side). Against the AI that kind of crap doesn't work. He will see you, and Just. Keep. Coming. Very different experience.

As someone who has flown combat flight simulators since 3 years old (idk if Finest Hour on a 386 counts as a simulator) there is something about it. I remember my first conscious memory of it. “Rowans Battle of Britain” I swung in behind a JU88. I placed my gunsight on his left engine. And fired. Smoke... then fire. And down he went. I was six years old. And there it was. An air to air kill in simulator mode “realistic controls”. It doesn’t matter if it’s an AI. Your first victory on full simulator difficulty in a “real” environment is something special you never forget.

Welcome to the DCS community! As you expand and grow into further planes, I'd like to recommend the F-14 Tomcat and the Mirage 2000C. The Tomcat is a beast. It's big, fast, shoots huge missiles from one side of a small country to the other, and does not hold your hand. It's a vintage muscle car with wings. If you make a mistake, GROUND. You will become a better pilot by getting good in the Cat. It will grow hair on your chest, and your upper lip. Also, no shit, it has a CASSETTE PLAYER and its own album of Top Gun-inspired original music written for DCS. The Mirage is the polar opposite. It's a slick little plane with highly augmented controls, but without the heavy artillery. To get kills in the Mirage, you've got to out-smart your enemies. Hide from them, deceive them, get close. A successful Mirage pilot brings a knife to a gun fight, and wins. Learning this plane will sharpen your evasion and situational awareness skills to a razor edge. In my opinion, the F-18 flies like a cement truck compared to these two planes. I never really liked the 18.

Fantastic video. Only thing I'd like to mention, at 11:30 "F18's don't land on their rear wheels first." This isn't always the case. The f18's gear is designed with high tolerance for landing on carriers, but if you watch non-carier landings, pilots will often flair off the aircraft, and land on the rear wheels well before the nose gear.

I bet Ralfidude gets asked to teach all the time. Found your channel through him and really rate both your content!

That 1st take off montage when your taking i the surroundings with the peaceful ass music. I loved that. So calming. Also since im just waking up kinda, it put me in a real relaxed mood. So thank you. That part of the video is about to become apart of my morning routine hahaha XD

you did amazing for a newbie. Don't belittle your first kill. It is a great achievement. AI or player doesn't matter. It's all about achieving objectives which you did by protecting that bomber. I also think you absorbed more from ralfidude than you yourself know. I noticed when you encountered that enemy F-18, as soon as you took your shot you were immediately cranking to the side in probable anticipation for him firing back at you.

In my opinion one of your best videos. I was able to almost feel the excitement and emotion of embarking in a huge new adventure as you were telling your story. I believe I first landed in one of your airsoft related videos a long time ago and then discovered that you also played that freaking amazing sim that I wanted to get into some day, DCS. I've watched a lot of your DCS videos always enjoying them but also feeling a bit jealous. Now that I have finally made the decision to start playing and made the economic commitment I was just looking for beginner videos and wow, there is one from Drewski! Congrats man, a really good story beautifully told. I just hope I have a good experience with the game as you have had :) PS: Just so you know, I'll have a Virpil base, stick and throttle because of you! Just waiting for the back order...
