I didn't even know this program had content-aware. Good to find this out! Thanks.

It doesn't work the way you think it does. Basically only works if there's something worth generating outside the borders of the original image. AFAIK you can't crop in tight on something, and have it use generative fill around that.

That's right, Content-Aware Crop Tool only expands the boundaries of the original image. ON1 Photo Raw 2025 is going to have the generative fill that you want. Discount link: on1.sjv.io/0JnNMJ If you decide to purchase it, you can save 20% with Promo Code: TOMCHESWICK20

In all fairness it is an easy picture for content aware crop 😉(brick sharp background and floor), i thought this was a new feature in 2025? But this is also possible with the 2024.5 version i have? Interesting 🤔

This is 2024.5 content-aware crop. The new AI feature of 2025 ON1 should be much better. I will test it out on this image when 2025 ON1 Photo Raw is available.

How did the second picture got so messed up by the program ? That you had to use the clone stamp tool?

The 2024.5 Content-Aware Crop does have limitations and probably why it is being updated with AI in ON1 2025.

I tried content aware cropping in a very similar way, to create 8x10 dimensions. I generally shoot in studio with muslin and solid color paper backgrounds. Unfortunately, when the program fills in the areas, the results are blocky, like big pixelated areas and the results are unusable. Very disappointing since I crop most pictures. I hope future versions of this feature work better because it's causing me a lot of extra time to get decent cropped images. If you have suggestions on how to get better results, that would be helpful. Otherwise, count me very disappointed in this feature.

I just tested out a gray muslin and had very good results. I then tested out a shoot that we used a pink roll of paper and that just gave ok results. I would have to retouch some of the new pink background to make it look good. ON1 is good about improving their software so hopefully Content Aware Cropping keeps getting better.

@TomCheswick thanks for checking it out. I've tried it on a Mac and PC with various backgrounds (mudlin, paper etc. ) and it 99% of the time gives unusable results that have to be worked a lot, to be usable. I agree with you, I hope they improve the feature. I bring it up to hopefully draw attention to the fact that it's unusable as it currently is. That's the only way the company will know that the feature is woefully bad and unusable.
