That is a great question. If I remember correctly, in the beta version, there was a panel for body skin retouching. Now that Aperty is released, that function is gone. Hopefully, body skin retouching will be added in a future update.

Seems like a lot of work and added app for something I've been doing for years in two seconds with the simple cropping tools included with every photo editor.
@TomCheswick8 күн бұрын
Thanks for your comment! I've been doing this too for over 30 years, including taping medium format negatives to these stupid paper cutouts to get the correct crop from my lab. :( If it is just for a few images, I agree with you, too much added work. When shooting over 50 headshots for a local business, this will save me time and ensure better consistency throughout the entire project. Additionally, I can easily re-run the batch and provide the company with square images suitable for Slack or other programs that require square formats, as an added benefit of hiring me.. I think Retouch4Me Crop is going to be a real benefit for my studio.
@RDJim8 күн бұрын
@@TomCheswick I too have had similar jobs working many headshots one by one. Batch jobs only work if the subjects are in the exact same spot. So I must agree that having an app that looks at each shot and employs the same cropping strategy would be useful. Though I don't see any jobs in my future that would benefit from it.

How you give a color for the skin?
@TomCheswick10 күн бұрын
Hi Victor! For accurate skin colors, I use the WhiBal White Balance cards or the Expodisc. Since both the Expodisc and WhiBal card corrects color for the entire photo, the skintones should look great too. EXCELLENT! I love ON1 Raw 2025. I work mostly with wildlife photos on a SLOW laptop windows computer. To speed up my editing, I first crop and save each image as a 16-bit tif file. Then I use a No Noise preset to batch process these tif files to remove noise. Then I edit each tif file, typically local adjustment like Dynamic Contrast, Sunshine, Vignette effects.

In what world do you live? PhotoShop, Lightroom, Luminar Neo, Capture One, DXO PhotoLab, Affinity Photo, Photo AI etc. all do work on raw photos. This is an application created for professional photographers. Is it useful to address us as if we were 5yr olds? But thanks for the demonstration. I was looking for an overview now that the application is available.
@TomCheswickАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment! It lets me know that I wasn't very clear when I said it was the only retouching program I know of that handles RAW files and gives you all of the camera profiles too. You are correct that programs like PhotoShop, Lightroom, Luminar Neo, Capture One, DXO PhotoLab and Affinity Photo handle RAW files, but I wasn't considering them as dedicated retouching programs. I was comparing Aperty RAW capabilities to other retouching programs like Retouch4me Arams, Evoto, and Portrait Pro. Sorry about the misunderstanding. I apologize if it seemed like I was speaking to you in a condescending way; that was not my intention. It can be challenging for me to cater to both beginner photographers and those with more experience who watch my videos. Therefore, I try to include fundamental concepts as well.
@thierryhoornaert9950Ай бұрын
@@TomCheswick OK. If you like the app's interface, Luminar Neo might be more appealing for mainstream landscape and portrait photographers not willing to use PhotoShop.

They removed the body blemish removal section? It was in the beta version. It works ok. I edited a group of three and one young female it didn't do anything for her skin. It did remove the dark circles. Its not on the level of Evoto . I may keep it being i pre-ordered in July. Hoping that they improve and add features that are truly useful to a portrait photographer. It has under delivered

Another software subscription. No thanks.
@TomCheswickАй бұрын
I understand your complaint about subscriptions. It looks like there are 3 paths that software companies are headed, subscriptions, pay per use and lifetime ownership. Even with the lifetime ownership, it is usually for that version and the software company is hoping that you will upgrade to the next version in the next year or two. I try to focus on finding software that meet my photographic needs and then see if it also fits within my budget. Let me know if you have found any lifetime ownership of photography software that include free version upgrades. Davinci Resolve offers this, but that is for video editing.

You said at @ 2:20 that you didn't have to set the camera profile because its already baked in the JPG? But do you have a ON1 camera? That's wat it saying in the greyed-out box? Other than this great video thanks 🙂
@TomCheswick2 ай бұрын
Great question, because it made me realize I did not explain this well enough. When a camera saves a photo as a JPEG, it processes the image and applies several settings, including color tone, contrast, sharpness and saturation. You should be able to choose this ahead of capture by selecting a Picture Style in your camera menu. A Picture Style is basically a camera profile, but it is baked into the JPEG and can't be changed afterwards. That is why when you work with JPGs in Develop > Tone & Color, the Camera Profile and ON1 Standard are greyed-out. The Picture Style is already processed into the file and can not be changed. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the preview of Aperty. Luminar NEO would be a must have if it also included all the options required for portraiture and not stand alone Aperty. Basis Aperty previewed options, Portrait Pro Studio has more options plus separate left/right sliders too. Aperty seems like a smaller package of Evoto.
@TomCheswick2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing, I appreciate your insight! I agree about NEO, it is an excellent all around program, but Aperty is great if you specialize in portraiture. I have used Portrait Pro Studio in the past and liked the results. Unfortunately, I always had to do my main editing in another program and then send it to Portrait Pro for retouching. I really appreciate being able to do everything within one program by using Aperty. Evoto is a very good program too, I like the new tethering capabilities and distractions removal feature. Some don't like that it is cloud based or their credits and subscriptions plans, but those are not big negatives for me. I think the Evoto team is creating a fantastic tool for photographers. Bottom line > There are numerous excellent tools available for photographers, and I intend to showcase them to this community, allowing everyone to determine the most suitable options for their needs. It is crucial to find the right tools for your workflow.

Just before I have started the trial, I went on the Reblum website and at this time you had the choice to subscribe for $9.99/month or a lifetime licence for $249, but also you could buy a licence with updates for one year for $99! Is was the right price for me, and if I knew I would have bought it. Because even with a 20% discount, to me as a hobbyist, it is too pricy. I am still looking for a cheaper solution. Evoto seems great but I want a plug-in.

Hi Thanks for this video. Why didn't you erase the hair in the original layer or use the mask and paint out on the mask on the girl layer? Not sure I understand the new Stamped Layer. Is that like a "flatten" automated feature?
@TomCheswick3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the questions! I don't erase the hair on the original layer because I know that when I cut the girl out to replace the background, I will lose some of the fine stray hairs, and that is OK because I would just have to remove them later as I find stray hairs distracting. A new Stamped Layer is similar to Flatten but you have the added advantage of still being able to access the other layers. If you know that you won't need the other layers,then Flatten is a great choice.

Thank you for subscribing! I am not aware of a way to selectively use Tack Sharp AI without using a 2nd layer of the image. Hopefully someone will chime in if they know of a way. If you want to keep to just the original layer, you could try adding an Effects filter like Dynamic Contrast and mask that in. That does a very good job with sharpening.
