I like the way you teach . enlarging the movements helps me see better where you are pointing. The Affinity tools are very small and I have to use a magnifer to see the tools. Sometimes I use my phone camera app to help me see. Thank you
@pariah735 жыл бұрын
at around 5:30, you select the two shapes and click the second option (subtract) in order to create the floating shadow (not a drop shadow-which is raster) If you hold Alt while clicking subtract, you will get the floating shadow that can be moved, adjusted, resized etc non destructively! :) Also, should always duplicate the text layer in case you need to start over. Great tutorial though thanks!

This effect / result is super cool. Did not know how to do this, and will definitely use, as working with text in one form or another is my 'thing.' Love this. Clear, straightforward, slow and easy to follow. Thanks so much!

Struggled with this initially. But, I see that at 3.29 you delete a layer. I'm guessing that shouldn't have been created in the first place? I don't see any reason for creating it in the first place. But I am new to Affinity. I got there in the end and learned a lot on the way. Thanks for taking the time to explain stuff. Love the font Xx
@TimespiderАй бұрын
For anyone else new to Affinity I think @kevinbrydentransformativec3857 is referring to the group that is left over from the add action. initially they were all separate elements within that group. Then the add action made all the items one element so the group is now obsolete & not needed anymore. Before the add action the group is sort of like a folder with all the elements in it & is required.

Nice. I love that you take the extra moment to explain the sub-steps or draw my focus to something that isn't obvious. Really, you're a great teacher. The math guy in me does have to note that it is probably usually said Gowzeeun blur. Then again, in my home town we had a street named after the German author Goethe which should be Gootuh, but the whole town called it Gothee Street.

For some reason, subtracting the two stroke layers just deletes both stroke layers instead of leaving you with a 'shadow effect' stroke layer. The only thing I cant follow is the portion at 3:24 which that seems to be a mistake anyways. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here - any help would be appreciated.

I am confused about what you did on the duplication of the layer. In the next step where you put the stroke, there was only one layer. What happened to the second layer?

7th Season Society , great video. One question, is it possible to use the stroke as an outline of an object? This was very easy to do in coreldraw but i'm having a bit difficulty in affinity. The purpose for this is to create a cut line around an object then to send it to printer that can do print and cut.

At 3:27 it looks like you just deleted the duplicate layer you just created and turned red, but you didn't explain WHY you did that (or even tell us you did it). Am I supposed to delete that layer? And if so, why turn it red? I'm lost.

A little confusing and at 3:16 I think its were it causes confusion. disregard the part he duplicates and just skip to where he starts talking about increasing the stroke. Hope that helps and good tutorial once you get the idea

idk if affinity changed something.. but, when you expand the stroke, it also fills the inside whole with the same color... when i expand the stroke, the inside is unfilled...so i have a inside and outside stroke... idk if this makes any sense, but i can't get the same effect as you due to it

Fab tutorial. I am new to Affinity, and designing simple text for a Save The Date card. I have a coloured layer underneath. When I print it out, the text has a very narrow white shadow, which I need to get rid of, but can't see where. Any help appreciated.
@labsquadmedia1764 жыл бұрын
CONFIRMED: Using only the FX panel (white (Outline, plus Outer Shadow ) this look can be ALMOST replicated. The gradient on the drop shadow (6:56 or so) can't be duplicated without having a second shape since gradients can't be applied to Outer Shadows, only solids colors. Gradients can be applied to the body text using the FX Gradient Overlay option, or by applying a gradient to the text using the Appearance panel or Fill Tool.

BEFORE you convert your type to Curves - make a copy of it and SAVE IT on another layer - turn that layer off but just save it while it’s still text so you will have it available should you need to make any edits to it layer on. You may never need it but IF you do - you’ll be glad you saved that spare in text form. (Voice of Experience)

This is exactly why I continue to use Serif PagePlus, even if I also own Affinity Publisher. As someone else said, i t is just too much work for a drop shadow. Serif needs to just add the drop shadow function here, just as in the case of the Legacy series.

Like so many others, `i can't believe the folks at Affinity Photo are incapable of creating a simple drop shadow tool such as that in PhotoShop. The is a HUGE weakness that need to be addressed if you're going to be taken seriously in this arena. Mostly, folks just want a soft grey shadow - come o guys!

Great tutorial!! Please help!!! I'm a design hobbyist & only just recently bought the Affinity suite... I'm trying to create a 3d text logo in the shape of a triangle... -imagine a 3d triangle, -one point at the top, -another at the bottom & then left & right points on either side, on a slightly higher plane than the bottom point. -the text is on the left and right faces of the triangle, in 3D. Please could you do a tutorial on this?

After 20 years this method seems wery complex and not always I obtain the result I wish.... especially if the border is big, because cut too much.... no, not somethings that make me happy....

Thanks for the video, however, OMG ...having just come over from Photoshop where drop shadows are so easy, this is a real pain in the butt to apply drop shadows in this program. This is a big fail in Affinity compared to PS. I can only hope the designers give us something simpler, and sooner rather than later.

Good tutorial. Enjoyed it a lot. However, I think you have your terminology incorrect. What you created is a "floating shadow", not a "drop shadow".

Blimey, talk about complicated - and it still leaves the text uneditable! Xara has a one click, fully customisationable drop shadow tool
@rocketgrowthstrategiesdigi45352 жыл бұрын
WHY TO COMPLICATED. I hope they come up with a fix for this. Seriously, you shouldn’t have to convert to curves, thus making it uneditable. If MS Word can do this surely Serif can too.
