The picc is so rare so many people nowadays call the Eb a picc, But it is a sopranino
@ZiSlepovitch2 жыл бұрын
In Europe, the birthplace of the clarinet, they call Eb clarinet a piccolo clarinet - clarinetto piccolo (in Italian) or petite clarinette in French. it is a legitimate name that includes a subfamily of high clarinets, D to Ab. In the English-speaking world, both "sopranino" and "piccolo" names are used (with the preference for "sopranino" in the US).

IMO it's a sopranino. The Ab clarinet is the piccolo.

Ted Planas made the acoustic design of the Lyons C Clarinet. He insisted on using the same bore as a modern E flat clarinet, which turned out to be, as near as dammit, the same bore as C clarinets of the early 1800s. The tuning of the Lyons is near perfect when using standard clarinet fingerings. By analogy, if modern E flat clarinets had the smaller bore of early 19C E flats, their tuning may also present fewer problems.

If the Eb is a piccolo, then what is the Ab ? The Eb and D are usually described as sopraninos or high sopranos.
@whosaubrey75243 жыл бұрын
the eb is actually not the piccolo clarinet, the ab is. the ab’s are so rare nowadays that some people make the mistake of calling the eb piccolo.
@derrickweaver93353 жыл бұрын
@@whosaubrey7524 The Eb is actually the piccolo member of the clarinet family. Piccolo and Eb Clarinet are both the most difficult members of their families. Eb and Piccolo usually play the same part. And because Ab Clarinet is so rare,Eb Clarinet is the only candidate that can be the piccolo member of the clarinet family.

I dont have much experience, but i have perfect pitch and have been watching e flat clarinet videos. I play b flat tho. Is the middle register on the eb (all fingers with register key) the same as the low register on the bb?

The middle register on the Eb clarinet is the same as the middle register on the Bb it's just slightly higher pitched :) The fingerings for the notes are the same

If its not common then it technically shouldn't be counted and they have a similar relationship with the flute and piccolo how the piccolo is much harder to play, making the e flat clarinet the piccolo of the clarinet family:D
