Oh my God. I've just been in the DRL sim practising inverted yaws and having a right hard time. Then your video pops up. I can find the combination of yaw and roll to spin on axis but I forget and then every time I have to find it while doing the move. I cant commit it to a full muscle memory. Coz of 35 degrees.
@DawnHub6667 жыл бұрын
Oh. Having watched the video. My problem is something else. But same concept. I am fine rolling with a slight bit of yaw. But when Im am rotating with yaw i am finding hard to get the right amount of roll added to stay horizontal.

i had to go from 35degrees to 25degrees to safely learn to flip and roll, which i havent masstered yet. hehe you just mentioned johnny fpv and its him (and others) i wanted to ask about... he does this peculiar rewind move a lot, imagine having zero camera angle and just yawing left then right .. thats what it looks like, so assuming he has some angle if not a wild angle, how is it posssible to combine yaw and roll so tightly, you remember i asked about secret sauce with the betaflight taw compesation thing... to me this looks really artificial and he does it a lot even in the most unlikely situations, even when it doesnt look good? the thing is not everybody does this though i have noticed a few others do it, and it rarely looks good or is part of a move. i've grabbed a video to highlight it, he does it throughout but aat 2:05 diving down through the trees is the most obvious example.kzbin.info/www/bejne/paDCkmyviquap68

drums&drones Hi need more information, have you set the receiver up in betaflight? I.e. Selected the correct port and protocol for it. With a Lipo plugged in (and the props off) if you turn on you TX while the quad is plugged into betaflight can you see the channel values changing when you move the sticks in the receiver tab? Have you set a channel for your arm switch on the modes tab? What esc protocol are you running, unlikely but if it's oneshot or multishot have you calibrated the escs? Is your Lipo definitely charged? I. E. The quads not in low voltage mode? New lipos don't come charged although would expect them to have enough power to spin the props. Are you confident everything is wired correctly?

At some point someone is just going to put a servo on their quad for variable camera tilt, and also sort out channel mixing on the FC so that yaw and roll are always relative to the camera angle.
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
This would be a great idea for a camera platform. In fact, it's how camera platforms work. It's a terrible idea for an acro or racing quad. When the quad can be in any orientation relative to the horizon, you need the camera to be at a fixed angle so that you know which way your motors are thrusting relative to gravity.

Joshua, any reason to not just use camera uptilt compensation in betaflight? I haven't used it yet but have just set it up to try it since you can turn it on or off from a switch now. Joshua Bardwell Motors 1 & 2 kick on at 1147. Motor 3 kicks on at 1663 and Motor 4 kicks on at 1014. What can I do to have them start at the same speed?
@VilleF1N7 жыл бұрын
You probably just need to calibrate the end points with BLHeli to; min throttle:1000ms, mid throttle:1500ms, max throttle:2000ms and then do the ESC calibration either with BLHeli Suite or in Betaflight configurator. (I'd use BLHeli because it tells you exactly how to do it in the motor tab. But if you know how, then by all means use Betaflight configurator.) And take your props off before any of this! Oh, and make sure you have calibrated the accelerometer, because that can also cause your motors to start at different speeds(and mess up how it flies).
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
If you are using multishot or oneshot, calibrate the ESCs. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWSwmGBvgpWfaJY

To cross sticks also increases roll rate and gives less side displacement and stick travel in "normal" turns. But is very tricky as nice, I still don't understand it well...
@mikereynolds29347 жыл бұрын
Joshua- do you have any uptilt in this video or is it zeroed out?
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
If it were zeroed out then cross-coordination would not be necessary. The need for coordination is an effect of FPV camera uptilt.

A tip from me if you are just learning FPV, don't start with low camera uptilt like 25-30 degrees. Mostly everyone are flying with a minimum of 47 degrees and typically 50-58. Thing is yaw and pitch start to work differently if you go more than 45 degrees, so you need to master that from the start. Start in the simulator and set there your camera uptilt to 48-50 degrees, learn it for some time and then go flying real quad. That will help you from the start as when you will go to quad event or a race, you will be familiar with everyone else's setups, 30-45 degrees are gone in 2016 :) So general tips - pinching on radio, uptilt ~52 degrees and build quad for 5S.
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
I disagree that "most everyone" is flying high uptilt. Racers do typically fly with 45 to 60 degrees of uptilt, but freestyle pilots are more typically in the range of 25 to 35 degrees in my experience.
@DawnHub6667 жыл бұрын
yeh. only racers have it that high really or the few freestyle guys that do inverted shit.
@DashzRight7 жыл бұрын
The worst advice I've ever heard. People already struggle hovering or doing slow forward flight with little camera angle, 50-60º is just dumb.
@randomwisdom8457 жыл бұрын
So you need to train for it. That uptilt won't be very good for slow flights though. For freestyle it's good if you practice flying backwards and flying fast. For racing it's the way as many people are now quite skilled during the years the racing is on. So you need to be on the edge too. Low uptilt will basically slow you or you will see the ground all the time. Also cornering is a bit different with that uptilt. You kinda just roll and that makes a turn. Yaw starts to strain your motors as only two of them are doing the job. So if you think racing, you must learn high uptilt. For freestyle, yes, lower might be more comfortable.
@djwilson486255 жыл бұрын
When I go both sticks one way, I roll my happy ass out of the turn. Roll left and yaw left, I fly out to the right of the turn. Only seem to bank turns moving the sticks opposite of each other. Doesn't feel natural like a plane.
@asalas887 жыл бұрын
I'm confused, you keep saying split S when flying over the trees and then just do a roll. Isn't split S half roll and half loop? So you end up flying back where you came from
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
I could have stopped at a 180 roll and gone back the other way. Instead, I did a 270 left roll and exited 90 degrees right of the entry point. But I'm damned if I'm going to make up a different name for every single angle of exit possible.
@VilleF1N7 жыл бұрын
My brain just can't handle cross coordinating the yaw with roll, past a certain speed or quickly enough to use it for tight tricks :/ I can do S turns and split-s' just fine, but fast and quick rolls just make my brain apply too much yaw all the time and sometime a little magic smoke comes out of my ears after trying to cross coordinate for a bit.
@chir00n7 жыл бұрын
VilleF1N use a simulator like LiftOff or DRL
@VilleF1N7 жыл бұрын
I have DRL(non Steam version) but, i prefer my quad over it because i just can't seem to make the sim behave exactly how my quad does. I've gotten it somewhat close, but i also have an empty field next to my apartment complex to train on with my quads. So yeah..
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
I don't know if a simulator will help with this because the exact amount of yaw needed is specific to the copter, so the muscle memory won't apply.
@VilleF1N7 жыл бұрын
That's probably why i've been struggling with learning to cross coordinate, because i learned on to fly with my first build. Which is QAV-R, Lumenier 2206 2350Kv motors and dem sexy Skitzo props and then a few months later, i build my current daily ripping machine which is QAV Skitzo frame, Brother Hobby Returner R4 2206 2450Kv motors and DAL Cyclone props. I sort of learned to cross coordinate with my first quad, but i never were too good at it. And now with a quad that hovers at 35-40% throttle vs 50% on the old one and with 35-40-ish deg of camera tilt vs 25-30 deg on the old quad. It's been a struggle to get adjusted and actually trying to learn, how to do it properly.

BuzzCola 3 The top plate died in a head-on crash with a 101mph Alien, the video is on my buddy's channel Jarrod Bath. It wasn't pretty for either quad - we believe the Mobius Mini is in low-earth orbit near the ISS! But only the top plate broke and took out a VTX too. I've hit a thick pine branch at throttle diving in, and damaged a 2300kv T2 motor shaft. Ate the ground after passing a radar gun (maybe should have looked at my volts in the OSD BEFORE the pass, whoops) and reinvented the wheel, rolling for-ev-er. It's a tough little bastard!

BuzzCola 3 Have a quick look at my channel, you'll see the abuse these things can take lol. My group of Quad Squad pilots prefer Armattan Chameleon frames, and the sublime Impulse Alien, but they're a bit rich for my blood. The most rugged by far is the Alien, but the Chameleon has a lifetime warranty (but shipping to Australia is a pain)

Inverted yaw spins and yaw backs with inverted spins are more of a “mastering of the ya axis”
