Well, Tomate won the Latam Championship on Analog against most people using hdzero on brackets. Also got 12th at champs 2024. Analog is still a valid choice for pros… but mostly is an affordable entry level choice for racing, but yeah… hdzero changed my life when I started flying it. I think you fly more confidently because you forget (mostly) about the constant fear in analog of breakups and channel interference, latency, and specially because you SEE IT ALL… if you fk up it’s on you… not your video. So yeah, there are my 5 cents. Epic video Jbox and as always … TORTASSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!

Great video and like any racing innovation is needed but typically comes with other trade offs. It’s then up to the racing bodies to decide whether it’s going to hurt the sport or improve it. I’m sure we’ll be having this same discussion when DJI release their race mode soon as well.

It’s not cheating, but it’s definitely pay-to-win, and that’s always been the case for open class. Nothing has changed in that regard.

Got my HD0 headset on black friday sale. I had skyzone cobra's before. I ripped the module out of those to put in my hdzero headset after upgrading the skyzone receiver to have the elrs backpack fusion board so I can change channel in lua. Then I put a cheap analog receiver adapter to av cable on the cobra headset to give to my buddy to try some flying & he wants to do fpv drift cars after winter. Excited to try the 90hz mode this summer with racing, those are still analog. I also love the headset to try openipc and it works great!

The title is such a good hook. Here's an important correction though: analog latency is about 2ms, hdzero is about 2.5-3ms. When any video system talks about latency it is always the first pixel change (including dji, walksnail, etc). The key to hdzero being better than analog is that latency is basically the same (and locked), but frame rate is 1.5x giving us more visual data per second to fly with. It's also much better at showing color - analog drops to black and white frequently, but hdzero gives color the same priority as the shapes in the video
@jboxfpv33034 күн бұрын
Ahhhh okay thank you for telling me! I wasn’t sure if the first pixel response time is the one I should or shouldn’t use. I went with full frame just to play it safe, and hyper told me to do so. Thanks for the info!
@smika7103 күн бұрын
@@jboxfpv3303 Full frame may not even technically be the best verbiage, as analog is not giving you frames like hdzero, its giving you 500-600ish fields of data 60x per second.
@Yaday-d5j3 күн бұрын
@@smika710 All (relevant) goggles render video progressively, using a simple pixel shift deinterlace process. That is true for Orqa, HDZero and Skyzone. Therefore, it gives you a field, rendered as a frame, at 60 progressive frames per second.

to be honest i think this argument only applies to the highest level of racing where it acutally matters calling it cheating is a bit much i think if its not forbidden its not cheating therefore hdzero is not cheating

How can it be cheating if everyone is using it? Its like asking if an iphone is an unfair technical advantage in communication vs a phone booth. Seems like only old heads and hipsters still using analog for racing. Enjoyed this video, well done. keep it up.

i would say its kinda pay to win but also it probably doesn’t make that much difference to analog that the race depends on it and if most top hdzero pilots had a week to adjust to analog they would probably still be as good or less than 0.5 sec slower but that does make a big difference in racing tho

Minor critique that might be confusing to new people: you aren't differentiating between HDZero (the video system) and HDZero (the goggles) in this video. At 3:10 you say that "HDZero can do both analog and HDZero" which makes it sound like a drone with an HDZero VTX could transmit analog, which it can't. You needed to say the HDZero Goggles can do both analog and HDZero.

I've tried convincing myself otherwise, but drone racing is very pay to win. There's people who fly more packs in a week than I can fly in a year. When I asked someone how they did it they mentioned spending $10k on batteries a year.
@tegmafpv4 күн бұрын
What about practicing a lot on sims?
@DaveyFPV4 күн бұрын
@tegmafpv It helps, but isn't a substitute for real life flying. Too much sim time sometimes makes my flying worse irl, especially with throttle control because I'm at the point where its just full throttle the whole time in the sim unless there's a split-s or something where you drop it quickly to turn faster.
@jboxfpv33034 күн бұрын
Honestly 10k on batteries a year is insane, I spend maybe around 400-600$ on batteries a year. Personally every sport or hobby can be pay to win at the highest level. However that doesn’t mean you can’t win with “worse” gear. At the end of the day it’s your own talent and skill that will matter the most
@DaveyFPV4 күн бұрын
@@jboxfpv3303 I'd consider that a more normal amount. But that's what, still only 15 packs, which could give 1500-2000 cycles? But skill comes from practice and spending more on batteries can mean more stick time.

Love this video style! Btw the analog when using the hdzero goggles is worst then when using goggles like Orqa's or skyzone. Especially when going far. The hdzero goggles struggle to display normally analog when the signal is low, and there is a more or less flickering in the colors. That the reason why I sold mine.
@jboxfpv33034 күн бұрын
@sil3ntcamille that’s a very fair point, I haven’t used analog at all since going to HDZ lol so I wouldn’t be the most familiar with that. Thank you for mentioning it

@Yaday-d5j3 күн бұрын
Most top racers will tell you that racing is mostly down to muscle memory on a track you already know and increased clarity really doesn't give you any advantage except it looks nicer for spectators. This is also why there is no 60hz vs 144hz advantage in games like Osu! and Stepmania. Only in freestyle flying (or in games such as CS, valorant...) would you benefit from the better reaction time to unpredictable events. Also, I can't take you seriously with titles like that.

@adakalyoncu19133 күн бұрын
If something gives advantage to richer guy rather than the more skilled guy, it is indeed cheating. You shouldn’t give advantage to someone solely based on how much money they have, in a fair race. Competitions shouldn’t be pay to win. HdZero can have it’s designated races when analogs race with each other. They shouldn’t race each other.
