Thank you for that positive feedback on the video. Glad this one helped. Make sure and check out the video on how to make a 3d model with basic maker. That uses a trick or workaround too.

Hi? Thanks for the great video. I have a question. Instead of scaling the relief as a percentage for the stripes (9:40 time mark) is it possible to do a constant offset of say 1/8"? The scaling makes the "white" stripes a variable depth depending on the overall thickness of the model at a given point which is looking kinda weird. Short of a way to do it in Carveco I'm thinking the only workaround would be to just program the stripes at the main wavy surface and then just drop my Z offset 1/8" when I run that toolpath, but as a relative newbie that seems like I'm asking for a booboo.

This was sort of a workaround for using maker to make these wavy flags and there is no real way to get the z to follow the wavy part without scaling the stripes. If you use a constant z it will only cut the tops of the raised parts and miss over the lower parts. If you scale it less it will have less effect on the different depths and make it look more even. The one I did came out pretty nice looking I thought.

How do you get the Vbit to follow the 3d wave of the flag? When I try and simulate tool path the carve isn’t at a consistent depth.

I used a machine relief toolpath with the selected vectors of just the stars. While they were not exactly the same they were fairly close. There was some depth differences throughout the stars though.

Well it looks good, too bad it don’t cut like that. I followed this video to the tee and it just don’t work. Many many hours of run time to find out it cuts too high. The flag waves cut perfectly but the Stars and Stripes mostly cut air. Try again brother.

You missed a step because I cut this out and it looks exactly like this. I think the part you missed was using selected vector in the transform relief tool to add the stars and stripes to your wave base model. Once you do that your model will have the stars and stripes in it and can be carved with a machine relief tool. Watch the video on Marine Corp relief with carveco maker video and I go over this hack in detail as well. Hope this helps.

Love the video but when i did this following all your stuff it says it will take 47 hours to do this cut

I would check the stepover and stepdown on your bit settings as these are usually the things that cause long cut times. For tapered ball nose bits you can run most of those .25 depth of cut because of the large cutting surface along the sides and during a finishing cut there is not much material being cut. Hope this helps.

How would you make the stars pronounced instead of indented?
@Timberfalls
@Timberfalls 9 ай бұрын
Instead of pulling the stars down you would just pull them up at the part where I recessed them in the video using the red arrow. You can use this technique to create any kind of raised or recessed features in the flag.
