This is great stuff, Jacob! I learned a little bit whilst getting a taste of something you were working on. Cheers, mate!

Wow, I actually followed most of that - well done explaining it to an utter ignoramus! I always kind of feel that if I could “draw” the changes I wanted, I might be able to achieve something. Now I see that’s kind of what you do, but with dials, lights and needles instead of lines. I used to think of it as a scary technical chore but I can see the creativity and fun in it now. Excellent stuff!

Jesus, this Elysia Xfilter mastering edition is realy nice sounding, so sweet, warm, wide and clear at the same time. Would you agree? I'm looking for some nice mastering eq in that price range and this unit is really something. It doesn't sound cheap or "normally boring". A also see you have the Vitalizer and you use it at the end of the analog mastering chain, wouldn't it be better to use it at the beginning (tubes in it, paralel compresion, coil etc.) so you polish to the final perfection with superior Xfilter? As you said, you don't use it at the end to the full potential, there's no need if you go first for "surgical" Xfilter, but I think you miss that nice coloring, separation of elements (2%) from the Vitalizer ...

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Xfilter - at that price there simply is no other EQ that sounds as good! As the the Vitalizer, I mostly use it for stereo widening, and I prefer to do that after eq and compression. But if I need to, I can always switch the order around.

This is a great looking (and sounding) rack here. I have an Xfilter coming per the recommendation of a few of my engineer buddies. Not the mastering edition, but got one for a superb price. I’m interested in that SPL vitalizer. Now they are on the MK3 which now has a black finish. Is that a unit you would recommend? Like other than the stereo expander, is it a useful tool in the mastering stage? Is the stereo expander worth it in its own? Thanks!

I personally like the Vitalizer a lot. You sort of have to understand what it can and can't do. The stereo expander is excellent - probably the best tool for widening I know of. Apart from that I like the Vitalizer for bring some mid-presence to lifeless mixes. As with all these kinds of tools though, the trick is to not overdo it.

For sure! I’m excited to check it out. They are on the MK3 now, so I’m currently looking at one. Also, what’s the name of the song in the video. I like it a lot hahaha

Nevermind haha! I found it. Thanks!

Nice studio, well done. Is the API-SPL-Gainlab in chain in this order? I got a similar gearset, may wanne try these chain. My SPL is a MKII - is the tube the extra touch in this? Kind regards Frank
@jacobholm-lupo24187 ай бұрын
Yes, the tube is the extra touch, and a very nice one. I tend to use them in this sequence, where I use the API for actual compression, whereas the Gainlab tends to mostly be at unity gain, just for the slight coloration and glue.

Would you recommend the SPL Vitalizer MK2-T ?
@jacobholm-lupo241810 ай бұрын
Very much so. It takes a while to wrap your head aroound what exactly it can do, but once you get it, it can really bring a mix to the next level, and I don't know of any other gear that does exactly what this does.

@@jacobholm-lupo2418 the only other competitor is ssl fusion but it’s more expensive.

I have ordered the MK3 version and testing it on various materials but I'm not sure about the unit. There are songs where it shines and takes out the digital midrange sound. But there are also songs where it's too much highs or too much lows or it feels you loose to much midrange. I also played with the drive - dialed in extrem settings on the Process, Bass Sound and LC-EQ and dialed back the Drive completely, then dial in a bit till it implements the curve in a more subtle way as it is working in parallel. When dialing it back it's not doing enough. I guess I have to buy a complimentary unit to work on the midrange. Would love to hear you opinion. Should I go with a dedicated chain instead? Like Singular Audio TubeDRVE, Elysia Xfilter...@@jacobholm-lupo2418
