We really appreciate you too Elysia ❤ I took advantage of your -20% discount to buy the first version just before the release of the Neo. I was surprised by the release of the Neo but I don't regret at all having bought the first version of the XPressor which I find exceptional. That said, I couldn't hear the difference between the first version and the Neo. Maybe because of KZbin, maybe because of my ears... I don't know. I notice that unlike a plugin, we know immediately when we compress too much, it jumps out at us. XPressor 1 and 2 behave the same at this level. One thing that is certain is that I love the XPressor. My next Elysia will be the NVelope 500, probably the best tool on the market for working on transients. Keep doing what you are doing you are awesome!

In the manual it says the external side chain is enabled when connecting a TRS to the side chain port. Does the compressor “know” when it’s receiving signal through the side chain or does it activate it even without receiving any signal? It might be a dumb question but all my compressors have a button to activate the side chain that way it can be off and I can have all the cables in the back going to the patchbay and choose when to patch in the side chain. How would this work I. The xpressor? Can I still connect everything to the patchbay? All inputs, ext out and side chain ?

When using negative ratios, trying lowering the threshold. This is very useful for bringing out the snap of dull and lifeless drums and percussive elements without all of the extreme release artifacts. You were showing more of the extreme effect that negative compression can do, which is also quite cool under the right circumstances. I’m just sort of thinking out loud with this, but it would be interesting to know what the time value (taper) is on the secondary release stage of the logarithmic release setting on The Xpressor… I’m curious, because The Teletronix LA2-A also has a secondary release stage that’s slower than its initial faster release (which is inherent and not adjustable). While I’m not suggesting that the Elysia is even remotely similar to an LA2A’s opto circuitry and tube output, it might be possible to “mimic” at least the LA2’s release character on the Xpressor, by using its logarithmic release. Or, not…but I’m curious about it. Anyhooo… Just a thought.

I use both, I really prefer the workflow and look of reference 2. It’s much easier to loop sections, solo bands and the level matching etc.. (metric has all these features as well btw) The level line in reference in brilliant, and the way you can reverse it to match an eq curve is something I’d hate to lose. But when you solo tracks with level matching it really messes the analyzer up and changes the levels of everything in the reference track, which is an absolute pain in the ass. That being said metric has the actual analyzer graph which if I had to pick one I’d take it over the level line method of reference 2.

For a true ‘Neo’ they really missed a trick. Would have been a smart move to add DAW recall integration like Tegeler and BM. That has to be the way to go with ‘next gen’ analogue kit for the future. This is just another flavour of the same more or less. Wonder if they’ll be doing neo of all their range? The Mpressor (which o have) could be more recall friendly. I’m not inclined to buy any more outboard other than simpler 500 series units unless they have DAW plug in support. The Creme, Raums etc are amazing in that respect alone! Would love Elysia to follow that course too.

@info junkie - Your love for 500 series unfortunately shows your Ignorance on why 500 series are like playing in the bush league competed to the pros.
@infojunkie4989 Жыл бұрын
@@donnas8408 my sincere apologies - you have me at a total loss. But i’m not sure your intent is to educate rather troll. But please expand why I have a love of 500, why i’m ignorant on the differences between 500 and 19R (it could be the case as I only have 6u of 500 vs about 60u of 19) so very much still learning. No idea what a bush league is either. Sorry. To others, who might have a better, more informed contribution to the debate - for added context my point was that after spending a small fortune on 19r outboard - i was suggesting that to attract further investment said manufacturers would have to introduce more DAW integration. In the meantime i’d limit further investment to 500 as combined with EXISTING 19R and plug ins I’m unlikely to miss anything based on a few minor component tweaks and subtly different iron curve. So in my mind this is a missed oppertunity by Elysia - who I wholeheartedly agree make excellent kit - to take it to the next level. I have no need for a Xpressor without DAW integration as it would do nothing my Mpressor can’t already do.

I would look into someone like "access analogue". of course not being able to put fingers on buttons is a crap thing, but having access to stuff Neve master buss compressor, vulture, SSL fusion etc. for literally a handful of dollars is priceless. not affiliated with them but if you already know how to properly set up these outboard units you can get a full master done with 40 grand worth of gear for like 15 dollars. I do still have outboard gear in my studio but when it comes to the big guns I dont have hundreds of thousands. and it works like a charm and sounds gorgeous

There is no need to trust your ears and bias :) the measurements and data are widely available! It is common for major mastering engineers to use 500 series gear for mastering.
