I always do not understand why every Chinese parent put so much into child extra curriculum trainings. Most of the cases the kid will just give that up and pursue something completely different. Future often can’t be designed.

Agree. I think mostly because we are first generation growing up in the economic booming time. Our parents they don't have such wealth to support our education. So when we have our own kids, the younger parents would like to put huge money and time on their kids, this could be regarded as a kind of compensation. While, we are also greatly influencd by the western lifestyle and the idea of elite class education, people adore the elite class or at least want to maintain the so-called mid-class. But the trend will change, I think in 10 or 20 years later, when the young parents see there is no direct result from this kind of investment, then people will be getting sober and gradully ceasing such behavior.

You are absoluately right, it is just parents' own dream putting on to the kids. However, it is also part of experience of grown up, otherwise, the kids won't have such rich experience and diversed education. But, there is a LINE that all parents need to be careful that kids will make their own journey and we are just here to support, never are the decision makers.

I don’t understand why you want to go to America to give birth of child. Why not other countries, northern Korea, Singapore, Thailand because you are rich in Shanghai. The bottom line is not enough money to live upper class life in America. Shanghai has bad weather….. hypocrisy, money,,,,, can’t live in America to sustain the upper middle class life.

@@kakazhu9825 American Dream becomes very hard these days, but still exits. This is the only country that a foreign born person can reach as high as everyone else. IF she had to go outside China, she made the right choice for sure.
providing two cases around me: 1. horse riding: my high school classmate (let's name her C.) took horse riding classes when she was writing dissertation (at Purdue). 2. organ, another high school classmate H. took pipe organ class last year when she's at Stanford (her major was EE). I myself took sketching and violin (at school) in my senior year (my major was CS). the bottom line is: you don't need to spend that kind of money unless you know the kids are gifted (or he/she really into it) since colleges in the states provide good curriculum for non-major students.
