Stop-Motion Transformation of Mastermind Creations Ocular Max PS-13 Impetus. THIS is how you do a masterpiece combiner! No loose combiner parts! I am doing this whole set as they come out. I love how the helicopter boom goes .... just .... awayyyy. So slick how they hide the combiner hand inside the other two modes. Ocular Max is seriously like having a second Takara in the game. What a great design team they have.

Production Note: I treated it like the triple-changer it is. So you get all possible transformations in the speed runs. If you follow my notes, you will know that these days with triple-changers I devise a “proto” mode that is exactly halfway between all possible modes. So in this case I transformed the helicopter to this protomode and then onward to the robot. Then I re-set back to the protomode and went to arm mode. Then I use the three sequences - either forward or backwards as needed - to take a tour through all possible transitions. In this case, in the normal run I just go with HRAH, but in the speed runs I do all of them as so: HRAHARH. Yes, it’s a pain in the ass to make the propellers turn during the 360.
Viewing Note:
If you want to follow along, I recommend skipping to the speed run and using the Chrome plugin called "Frame by Frame for KZbin". It turns your , and . keyboard keys into single-frame movement keys. Every step of the transformation is documented in the frames of the video, in what I consider to be the best sequence. With minimal rubbing and minimal parts-parking.

I'm impressed this Vortex's alt mode actually resembles a Kaman Seasprite very closely. And still transforms into a convincing Bruticus' left arm... without fist kibble, even. Impressive.

Funny think is the original Vortex was supposedly a Seasprite but pretty much fails to actually look like it.

I love the fact that the combiner hand is built in! Having to carry around obvious hands and feet is a regular let down for many combiner sets.

Got mine today. Very cool. Wish it transformed as smoothly as your animations by default, but this was REALLY helpful with making sure I didn't over-stress anything in the first few movements of each joint when they were still really stiff. Head still keeps popping off though.

so if the huge port on the bottom of the helicopter isn't for combine mode, then what is it for? is it an extra leg mode connection?

Very perceptive. I'm not sure what it is exactly but it's on most of the photos you see of that helicopter model. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaman_SH-2_Seasprite

The square hole is for bot mode transformation since the panels open and need that gap for the hinge they fold around to be on the inner legs. My best guess.

AMAZING! you figured out how to transform away the boom halves without them crashing into the middle piece. The proto mode is when the copter is sort of upside down propped up by the arms and with the fist halves out but not rotated to fist mode. Then you can either fold them in for Bot or rotate them to move to arm! Did I get it? Also it's great how you did the triple changer approach on this one! Really great. The head pops off on mine when rotating it on that neck for Bot mode but other than that I really like this figure and can't wait for the rest of the set.

You got it! It's right after the legs unfold and the cockpit closes back up. Not going to lie, the head didn't really turn around, it just unplugged and replugged it.

I am so pleased you noticed the planning that went into that center boom clearance issue. I could have cheated it because it's stop motion, but there is really a right way to do it so I show that.

Totally opposite order and no issues pegging everything in at the end. Makes me question if the people responsible for the instructions had anything to do with the figure design at all.

What's up with that port on the bottom of the copter mode? I thought it was for the combination.

It's a radar housing. It has a square hole in it so it can transform.

since the fist is split on a swivel... does that mean it can slide off when split apart?

No - it's a permanent part. The swivel is pretty clever and hard to explain with words.

@@ommommo You can see the two swivels at 2:21. They are actually slotted half-circle rails that allow the half-circles you see to swivel around about 100 degrees.
