I am very grateful they made the miniseries and appreciate the amount of funding it required. I just can’t help but wonder if they could have got to ten episodes if they had removed some story arcs which didn’t seem to help the show move along. My best example is the Crosby/ Sandra scenes and maybe cutting down the Stalag scenes. In my opinion, they should have written the episodes similar to The Pacific and focused on three airmen from not just the 100th Bomb Group but different bomber, fighter, and reconnaissance groups/squadrons from the Eighth Air Force.
@terrified057t48 ай бұрын
Yeah like Crosby is a weaker Nixon from Band of Brothers. Yes, he held significant influence over how the 100th performed but I just can't care about his romantic relationship with an OSS officer. And the Stalag scenes seem to dominate so much of Episode 8 that the Tuskegee just feel like a diversity hire, nothing more than a checkmark. I can't help but say that Red Tails and The Tuskegee Airmen actually look better now thanks to this episode just sidelining the men until they got to Stalag. Also completely missing D-Day because Crosby nearly worked himself to death was so lame, Rosie was literally flying during that and we only see it for a few seconds!?!?
@legiox37198 ай бұрын
I thought this series went all over the place. They kept with the 100th bomb group for 7 series, then jump to the Tuskegee Airmen and their fighter group that was operating near the mediterranean. Just seemed like this series was trying to condense way to much information and events in the span of 50min.

I’m okay with there not being much focus on DDay considering the fact that DDay is covered in length in almost every other World War Two movie/series.

The Tuskagee airmen’s story is fascinating, rich and complex. However it feels artificially shoehorned into the unrelated story of the 100th with the POW camp scenes with Buck wholly imagined; unlike the rest of the series with is remarkably factual and accurate. A cynic would say they were written in just to avoid opening up the miniseries to criticism for having no black characters. Introducing this storyline in the penultimate episode clutters the episode and dilutes the existing storylines. The CGI is well below the standard of the rest of the production giving it all a tokenistic feel, as if ordered by an DEI/EDI compliance officer at Apple.

The showrunners have already made big changes to history for the sake of the story/art. Sandra’s SOE experience, Bubbles’s early death, Egan being in the US airmen massacre, etc. I have read the book, and Egan/Clevens’s story is wrapped up in the first chapter. Including the Tuskegee airmen is a vehicle for the same thing those other changes brought. Let’s not be lazy and hypocritical.

How the heck does DDAY not get more time, and that's not even talking about the famous Tuskegee men. They barely got any screen time fighting or showing their contributions. Once more, being overlooked at. This episode was a complete filler! Yes, the progression is there slightly, but if the TITLE is "MASTERS OF THE AIR" but more ground scenes are shown. Wonderful show and wonderful recaps!! While this show doesn’t hold a candle to Band of Brothers, it’s still incredible. Also I agree re: wanting to see more of D Day, but at the same time I understand why it wasn’t a focal point bc we’re following a set of characters who had some degree of separation from the “on the ground” experience. (I’m not by any means trying to discount the impact the actual people who experienced this war had on the actual day, but we’re following the human aspect of these folks… if that makes sense? I hope it does!) I’m loving this show and cannot wait for the finale.

I wished they would have made the episodes longer it would have helped in getting through the long time line that the 100th was flying missions. But what the Bomber crews went through to complete a mission was brutal. They were chewed up and spit out. Things really didn’t change for them until the P51’s got into Europe and things really changed once the Red Tails started flying top cover for them. It’s too bad that they don’t have any of the guys/gals they are portraying in these series have since passed on. They’re other groups they could have mini series about. The thing about the action on day is this: From the perspective of the airmen it wasn't all that exiteing. Doodlittles strategy of destroying the Luftwaffe by sending the Mustangs to the airfields and destroying their fighters whle landing and refuleing worked better than all the attempt to destroy air craft production ever did. By the time D-Day happenend the allies had not just air superiority in northern France they had supremacy. So all they could have shown were a lot of missions that went rather smothly. Yes there was still Flak, but overall it was actually more likley for the later crews to hit their 30 (and more) missions without injury or death than it was for those who had the "easier" number of 25 early on.

I'm not aware that any "Tuskegee Airman" unit sport sharkmouth livery on it's P-40s. The CGI got kind of "cheesy" here. During the opening bomb scene in the P-40s, those airplanes were WAY too close to one another in trail formation for bomb release. The leader would've likely "fragged" one or more of the airplaines in trail behind him. When an airplane loses a wing, it will spin on its longitudinal axis away from the intact wing, not the other way. The intact wing is the one still producing lift. Production was a little sloppy in these sequences.

I don't have any problem with the time passing I have to say. But a couple of things about your commentary. 1. the word is "reality" not realness (no such word). 2. what's wrong with people that they don't understand the difference between 'ground and floor' and roof and ceiling'. Bucky/Buck were fighting on the 'ground' not the floor.

Episode 8 had terrible CGI terrible writing. The Tuskegee airman and the SOF stuff was simply to appeal to the American black vs white thing and women. It was a waste of an episode.

I think now that the survivors of WWII are few and far between the attention to detail that we got with Band of Brothers is slipping away. The Red Tails storyline seemed forced, it might be a great story it just didn’t fit into this one.

Agreed. You watch movies from the late 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and most of those actors served in the military at some point if not directly in ww2. Gives them some credibility

Totally disagree. I think most of the viewers of the series are big fans of WW2 aviation history and have GREAT affection for the accomplishments of the Tuskegee Airmen. The problem is the historical inaccuracies, and the feeling that they were shoehorned into the episode strictly to get that DEI Box checked.

Build up to D-Day with it covered for all of 5 seconds. This show has been a mess I think, too much standing around talking. Did they not have budget for more missions? A lot of odd side character scenes with no real point. Disappointing they've been working on this for 10yrs or so and this is what they came up with.

Weak episode. Really weak. Terrible CGI and the sense that the Tuskegee Airmen were tacked on to somehow make sure and bring in minority soldiers was really terrible. The Tuskegee Airmen deserve a series of their own.

They already had two movies. Meanwhile the 357th Fighter Group and the 56th Fighter Group had the best and most prolific air aces in the ETO and did ten times more than the Tuskegee Airmen to win the air war has zero movies.

Name, rank and number is the standard response to questions when captured by an enemy. Interrogation isn’t always a brutal experience and answering a personal question gives them an in to then exploit and cause you more stress. Ie start to go on about your wife and children and how they won’t ever see you again unless you comply. I one attended a briefing by military intelligence and the officer giving the presentation asked one a about 5 questions. His answers were then explained to us on what they could do with it. It was frightening stuff.

Tuskegee Airmen, brave men who served their country, BUT not part of the story. Crosby's little spy chick friend with benefits, NOT part of the story. This whole series took a turn after episode 3 into the toilet. It's up there with SAS Woke Heroes as one of the WORST WW Deuce creations by Hollywood. I thought it was going to be a combo of 12 O'Clock High and BoB. It's a Looney Tune CGI cartoon with bad acting, even worse writing and a whole lot of woke idiocy. Masters of Wokeness is the Godfather 3 of the Hanks and Spielberg WW 2 series and films. Thumbs down!

They had to ruin it by adding the tuskagee airmen to hit the woke quota in the end all cudos to those airmen but this was supposed to be about the bombers, now its become to same character oversaturated mess the pacific was.

Bro I am having a hard time accepting this but it’s true. They totally threw them in to fill the woke quota and it’s so frustrating. With a show already losing focus in the last few episodes…it’s rough…Because you’re right…the last 3 really lost their footing in my opinion so throwing them in there was the icing on the cake. It’s a shame dude. Years of waiting for this..

@@crazyonmyblock5956 I think so. According to the book the Tuskegee airmen had nothing to do with the story. Buck briefly crossed paths with one of them in the stalag and that’s it. It feels like they were thrown in there to fill the diversity gap.
