I can appreciate some people not happy about Classics being cancelled. But I missed that party. I really love Origins because i had about 4 he-man figures originally and missed the boat for the classics line. Origins is my second chance of recollecting this beloved line.

It really is an excellent, and fully realized toy line. It's also a great nod to the original toys while bringing something new and welcome. I imagine if Hasbro did something similar with their retro collection it would be a lot more interesting.

Finally! A classic Man-at-Arms with a moustache! Odd he still came with a mace instead of a laser blaster as he was the high tech expert in the cartoons.

While I have a soft spot for the 80s cartoon, the mini-comics that came with the first wave of figures (where He-Man was a barbarian, no Prince Adam, etc) was always my favorite mythology. A good solid comic of that version of MOTU would be welcome. Great vid, and enjoy the toys!

Agree with your assessment. Mattel not using the original face sculpts is a baffling decision, though. They should sell a pack of alternate heads! Fan-made ones certainly will appear, otherwise.

With my fondest love for the original MOTU collection (an amazing part of my childhood), Origins is my next favorite MOTU line. Even over Classics and Super 7. Origins recaptures the feel (bulky muscle bodies), vibrant colors, look, and scale of the vintage line. Now, with additional playability and articulation….not to mention a lot sturdier for true play…..Mattell knocked it out of the park for kids and adult collectors who are kids at heart! Still looking for more figures from wave 2 and 3 on shelves (distribution does leave much to be desired) but I’ll stretch out my toy hunting a bit longer allowing me to live out more of my 2nd childhood. 😊 Great video!

Great video Tony. With Trap Jaw also being my favourite figure from the original line up and cartoon I'm glad to see they've done it reasonable justice in the origins line up. The Sky Sled looks interesting with the improvements and the addition of a stand. They got it right with this line up 👍

@@coolslc well, that’s also a problem. I have no space to store them away anymore either. I’ve got boxes and boxes of action figures; Star Wars, Wrestling mostly, & Transformers. I cleared out some space only to refill it last year when toy hunting was real good again (when no one was going out due to the pandemic)

This may be my favourite current action figure line, even at this stage. Right there with you on the He-man in hand I am really pleased with the look though I will have to wait and see what I think of the Skeletor head as I don't have the figure yet.

Articulation was never an issue in my childhood. I had MotU and two Star Wars figures. I never dreamt of posing He-Man on my shelf, I made him conquer Snake Mountain ;-)

The way Mattel did the Masters Origins line is how Hasbro should have handled GIJoe Classified, sticking to their 80's roots while adding modern touches. Hasbro has come a long way since that first wave of Classified (the new Zartan in particular is unbelieveably good), but wow, what a spectacle the line has been in terms of repaint use, design choices and distribution. I'm collecting Origins myself, and I have to tell you, Tony. You're going to want the new Tri-Klops. Just picked him up this week, and he's very well done. Thanks for another great video! Loved catching you on Infinity Equation, too.

Fun video! Thank you! These are nifty, but I already have nearly the entire MOTU Classics line, and I can't justify going back and re-buying the same characters all over again in a new style. The new Deluxe Origins figures bring back the action features, but they retain nearly all of the poseability and parts-swapping capability, so far.

Couldn't agree more, sir! Got He-Man and Battle Cat recently and, by Randor's Beard, they're great! It's a real testament to the original design work that so little has changed. The articulation complements the sculpt exceptionally and it's nice that He-Man has proper bracers on his arms, as opposed to fleshy, armour growths. Can't help but feel as though my 8 year-old self is bit jealous right now. Also, _that_ image of Skeletor will haunt me in my darkest hours. 🤣

Hey Tony, the new Origins Battle Armour He-Man and Skeletor come with extra heads styled more like the originals (if you can get your hands on them) I got a BA He-Man and put the extra head on my wave 1 figure. He looks fantastic sitting on Battlecat. I’m gonna do the same with Skeletor when I run across him

It’s been very frustrating with the lack of stocking up on later waves. I STILL have yet to see any wave 2 figures released in any of my local Walmart’s. All I ever see are pegs, upon pegs of He-Mans and Skeletors. The only other option is to buy the others online, but they sell out Quick!

I love these new figures, even though some I prefer in it's original 80's release. But great for kids who weren't around during that time. What I would like to see is a new re-issue toy line from Kenner for The Six Million Dollar Man. That was THE toy when I was a kid in the 70's, and I know many who would love re-issues as well. Being the show is still popular today, I really don't know why they shouldn't do it.

They are pretty cool. I like the Loyal Subjects line the best for some reason. LoL. They weren’t too hard to come by and have about 100 and with other same scaled similar characters from different lines was able to easily customize various tier three characters like Clamp Champ, various eternian guards, Mossman, merpeople and the ice creatures. Good stuff bud!

I haven't seen these in stores yet or scalpers are buying them up. I'm still on the fence about collecting them. If I can't easily obtain them for the retail price. I'll just pass. Its a shame what the collecting world has become.

Some of the face sculpts could have been done better, but aside from that, MOTU Origins really seems to be a great toy line that indeed pleases both adult collectors and regular kids. I hope that they are using good plastics to manufacture them and these figures can have some longevity.

I absolutely love these figures. They are well made and affordable. I personally like the new face sculpt for Skeletor. Let's face it. In the cartoon he was a blabber mouth. With his mouth open I can just hear him saying" I'll get you next time you muscle bound boob!" I also thought Man At Arms always looked weird without his mustache so I'm happy they added it to this figure.

Tony, I absolutely could not agree with you more on this MOTU Origins line. It is wonderful to see something that finds such a perfect balance of vintage and modern toys. I have been collecting them from the start but Wave 2 has been very difficult to acquire in the U.S. due to a very odd distribution pattern on Mattel’s part. I do have it preordered through an online distributor. Hopefully it will come soon.🤞

Your right,Mr.Tony.no need for the motu origins castle grayskull.the vintage one plus the vintage snake mountain is compatible to the origins toyline. The origins toys has made 80's dads and vintage toy collectors have the desireable urge to relive our 80's childhood.

The new Man at Arms = Burt Reynolds. This cannot be unseen. Wave 2 has finally hit in my area. I picked up Hordak and I legit felt like a kid again when I got. Great memories with MOTU, and I'm thrilled the new ones have better articulation and fit in well with the original cast. Side Note: The Mattel MOTU inspired WWE figures also fit in very well. I "may" have a Macho Man atop Castle Grayskull with Teela and Evil-Lin.

Definitely a toyline done right, I'm loving Origins more than Classics, but the distribution is really starting to become a problem, in the UK they turn up, sell out in minutes then that's it for months, Smyths have pushed back He-Man twice now and the deluxe figures don't seem to be showing up at all.

You made the right move unless those are the only two characters that you want. Mattel's distribution is absolutely terrible and nothing is ever available in retail except He-Man and Skeletor. Wave 2 is pretty much a unicorn in North America, and your typical soccer mom would be lucky to bump into even Wave 1 figures in Wal-Mart or Target.

The other nice thing about the line is that each regular figure is US$15. While that's a far cry from the prices of the vintage figures back in the 1980s, it's more affordable than the US$20+ for pretty much any similarly scaled figure from Hasbro.

It was a puzzle for me when I had He-Man as a kid in the '80s and why he has a battleaxe despite not seeing him use it in the tv series. I also never saw the Skysled in the toystore and was only aware about it in the early '90s. Now, I am capable to buy the new line...especially Orko!

I think many collectors are always going to opt for Classics, but to me Origins merges the best of both worlds with modern design and playability, including some play features.

Great video - thank you. My only gripe is finding the toys at retail in UK. I can only seem to find them online where the price-point is - in my opinion - rather high for collectors and kids alike. Hopefully if they do prove popular and find their way into mainstream stores then the price might drop. Great figures though!

Trap jaws' mechanical arm has same shoulder articulation as his left arm. like you have him give cloths line using hook arm there is small % that don't have the ball hing joint at mechanical arm but most do.

Sadly, this day in SEA especially my place the toy distribution is just Skeletor, He Man, Battlecat, Sky sled, Scareglow, Orko, Man at Arms, and Evilyn. And of course Heman, Skeletor and man at arms so rare. At least still got prince adams and the sky sled

If Mattel just un-f'kd their distribution then scalpers/flippers wouldn't have a business model. I also don't understand the point of having exclusives to draw people into the store, yet only having 2 actual units of the exclusive per store. They're so unobtainable they might as well not even exist.

Nice line and I enjoyed the cartoon. Imagine now that Hasbro took the retro SW line and starting giving them added articulation? Or the 12" line with added articulation and retro packaging? BTW the new battle armor Skeletor face looks improved !

Mattel has first rights/options to toys and games and the right to say “copyright Mattel” on toy product until 2023. After that all rights including entertainment and all consumer product (including toys) rights revert fully to Universal. Hopefully they get to pump out plenty of characters by then, we need vehicles, Snake Mountain, and the Eternia play set! 🤯🤙🏽

Great review and comparisons. Unfortunately, as you point out, availability and distribution is a big problem with this line so far. The only way to guarantee getting the whole line is to preorder online. I frequent 7 Walmarts and 5 Targets in my area and, since January, I've only seen one case of wave 2 and a few Panthors freshly stocked. Meanwhile, there are plenty of He-Man, Skeletors and Battle Cats leftover from wave 1. There doesn't seem to be a lot of interest from kids or casual collectors. I'm sure the lack of a cartoon is not helping to drive kid interest. Hopefully they can straighten out the distro issues, as well as get the toys into retail across Europe, Australia, etc., so this line can last for a while.

Here’s a sad truth I just realised. But apparently in Europe, the comics they package with the figures have all the dialogue removed. This is so they can distribute the figures to any European country and not have to bother producing a different language variation for each.

It's 80% perfect, the figures still lack in the articulation and optional hands department. MOTU 200x still is the superio design, but those toys were also extremely lacking in the movement department.

@@AnalogToys thank you. Like yourself I grew up in England in the 80’s. Coming from a family of 7 siblings we really couldn’t afford much, so my main toys were Skeletor ,He-Man and Moss-Man. I had a best friend who unlike me was an only child and he had every Masters of the universe figure, vehicle and play set. I would beg to play with them every opportunity I had. Now being in my late 30’s I can finally offered to collect the origins line, watching your video has gotten me feeling very excited. I have already sourced and paid for as many as I can find. Not an easy task in Australia. So my question is, when I receive them, should I keep them in the packaging? I really can’t afford to get 2 of each. I know it’s a dumb question, just wondering if anyone else has this dilemma. Thank you James

Me: Take my money! Mattel: Eh... no thanks. I was prepared to purchase every single released figure/vehicle/playset in the Origins line (which is saying a lot because I'm not an avid toy collector), but after checking all the local and semi-local retail outlets and seeing absolutely nothing stocked but pegs full of He-Man and Skeletor, I decided to cut my losses and simply not collect it at all. This is the most excited I've been for a toy line in ages, and Mattel is totally ruining it by making it nearly unavailable except through scalpers or specialist online toy stores with a pre-order model. The time of '80s end-caps is over. It's so sad. As fun as these look, do yourself a favor and don't waste the time, energy, and money. Mattel just lost about $2000 which I was beyond eager to give them.
