Love this song, not because it is uplifting, but because it's true, it was true when Dylan wrote it, it is true now. However, I don't care for Dylan's voice. I use to like it by Pete Seeger and still do, but when Eddie Vedder sang it at Dylan's anniversary concert in 1998 he killed it. It is the best version. Eddie Vedder has such a strong voice and sing with such passion. I urge you to listen to it, it is available on Utube.

Universal Soldier is an attack on soldiers, the ones who are ordered to fight under penalty of court-martial and the firing squad. It may be the most ignorant, hateful song ever written.
