Great clips, I can't understand why someone gives a negative thumb, there is so much work in this videos, thank you! Also memories of my childhood, I'm also collectiong these Mastertronic and Firebird stuff! 👍

Thanks for watching. Maybe that thumbs down is because somebody didn't agree with the list! Good luck with your collection 🙂

A bit harsh on Manic Miner there! Great video, I kept forgetting this was about budget releases, there are some quality games here. That pinball one is nice, I had a scrolling pinball on C64 that I loved. Is Kickstart correlated to Wheelie, another game I loved (Spectrum, I think I had it on)?

Thanks for commenting on this ancient video 😆 I'm not a fan of Manic Miner I'm afraid, I think it's hugely overrated. Wheelie and Kikstart are not related as far as I know, though one may have inspired the other.

@@witchfinder1976 Fair enough! I can't remember if it's in your vid but I discovered Wizzard for C64 the other day and I really like it, great game! Really interesting and eerie sound to compliment some cool platforming elements.

Big fan of Pinball, moreso in modern era, with Pinball FX, or Pinball arcade, however VCS Pinball, imo, is a wonderful game too, that I can play for hours, in multiple play sessions, sorry slightly off topic. Kane is great game on ZX Spec, too. Think I saw a screenshot in the intro of another classic game, which I really played loads on ZX but since C64 game is a port, with a Rob Hubbard tune added I hope that will appear, too? Btw, don't recall mention for C64: Lap of the Gods. The POD game is great too. Bomb Fusision, definitely looks worth a play, which is a new game to me, as is several of the top games in this list. Kickstart 2, great game, definitely a better tune on C64, no sound on ZX but otherwise still a great game. Great video, thanks.

I don't think Lap of the Gods got a C64 release - certainly not if it was a Mastertronic game as I'd have it otherwise! Was the game you mentioned from the intro One Man and His Droid by any chance? That fits the bill of being a Spectrum port with a Hubbard tune added. There's a review of it on my channel somewhere! Thanks for catching up with my old videos 🙂

Loved Masteronic. The only games I could ever afford. Chiller is one that sticks out in my mind. Great memories.

All in all, a pretty solid list. Quite a big fan of POD, and a lot of respect for Kikstart 2, plus some it sounds like I need to check out.

Surprised by your choices but good to see Street Surfer near the top. I managed to get this voted into the Lemon Competition June 2014, and I scored over 15 thousand. The top score was 25k! n.b. I also met Ste Pickford a few weeks back, and I commented about his loading artwork on this game. Kikstart2 was also played at my house extensively at one point. Half of the fun was constructing an impossible course for the computer/opponent to fall off of. :)

Which choices surprised you? And what would you have in a Mastertronic Top Ten?

I cant remember if these are originals, but some of my favs include: Action Biker, Panther, OMAHD, Colony, 1984, yes even Street Surfer and Kickstart II of course. I liked your Pastfinder review but havent got around to checking the game out yet.

Can't argue with a single word you said about Kickstart 2. C64 gold that game was 👍

This is a good video. I am glad I saw this. There were some titles I did not know about as I think ZZap had not reviewd them. Excallabur looks wonderful. Very nice graphics and that ghost is a good effect. POD, was one of my last games I bought when the C64 was my main computer. It got a good review in ZZap 64! I recall and so I looked for it in Boots. Took it home and thought it was ok - it reminded me of Gridrunner and I thought it looked like an Atari 800 game. Then my power supply broke very soon after that and did not buy anything for the C64 until I got another one in 1992, when full price games were now budget!

POD was definitely the best Mastertronic game I ever played. I'd probably go as far as to say it was among the top 10 of all C64 I played overall. It was one of the few games of the era that really captured that arcade level of energy and mayhem. Also , like you say, it was a fair game. If you lost a life it was because of a mistake you made. This gave the game a real feeling of progression and accomplishment as you worked through the levels.

I was a big mastertronic fan and had most of these, I got a new game every week mainly due to the 1.99 price range and box art was a big part of my decision making hahaha !

Some good memories (though I played most on Amstrad) Though I do think the Magic knight series deserves a mention in the top 10.

I was hoping for The Human Race to be in there, the most varied and challenging C64 game ever in terms of graphics, music and activity.

My overriding memory is that Kane was a big disappointment to me that it was NOT compatible with my C128. The screen would draw, then go black and crash. My dad took it back for another copy but it was just the same and then we were told in Boots that they'd heard it was a compatibility issue.

Oooh. I see you had a squinting habit in this video. That's due to the monitor. I hope this condition is gone now. I use to have this habit when I was a teenager.
