Master Wong has selected the top 10 most effective tai chi techniques from the Yang and Chen style forms. Showing the application of how the techniques would be used in the streets today, as well as against other styles of martial arts.
Originally Tai Chi or Taiji was designed for combat and the Chen style was formed. Created by Chan San Feng, who was from the Wudang Mountains. Later warriors learn this to reached the highest level of combat understanding. Tai Chi is known to have 5 styles of form: Chen, Yang, Wu, Sun Ng. The most practiced worldwide today is the Yang Style for health benefit reasons. Tai Chi is sometimes translated as ‘supreme ultimate’ or ‘great polarity’ and is expressed in the symbol of yin and yang. A universal force composed of the powers of yin and yang is central to Taoist philosophy. ‘Chuan’ means fist or boxing, Tai chi Chuan means supreme ultimate boxing or grand ultimate fist, the highest attainable martial art using the principles of yin and yang.
Tai Chi chuan relies on technique, balance and softness. It’s suitable for beginners of all ages and can be practiced martially with a view to combat and self-defence, or with a focus on the health benefits and relaxation.
Learning Tai Chi combat will give you the keys to unlock your body’s full potential power. This coupled with Master Wong’s modern contemporary approach allows you to make the power of the forms relevant for use against the likes of boxers, MMA fighters or thugs Which are the popular styles that are likely to be used in real combat in the 21st century.
Here you see how Master Wong uses pulls, push, grabs, locks, kicks and striking techniques to defend him self. As easy as they look it stills require precision, speed, strength, balance and the understanding on the body mechanics.

Tai Ch itself is more of a principle about using the opponent’s force against them. Absorbing when the time is right and then letting it out at the right time.

That is what I am taught as well from a Master ... (quite famous over here); yes the inside; but is it the feeling ..spiritual or the know how -anticipation or whatever ?..Just the odd sometimes I get it, but I fail more than succeed- that is what I must change but how ?.
@DJEmirMixtapes

Those are the principles and they are important, light on top heavy on the bottom, always yield and redirect, spine straight so you can yield properly but within the form there are actual techniques as well

That’s basically akidio and it also doesn’t work
@DJEmirMixtapes
@DJEmirMixtapes 2 жыл бұрын
@@anas-432 No actually Tai Chi is a much more complete art that utilizes strikes, throws, pressure point fighting (which is actually its unknown origin within the Shaolin temples) as well as locks seizing and holds, and the development of yielding and explosive power. It is a highly effective art when utilized correctly, the problem we see is most people don't. Bruce lee's first art was actually not wing chung but Tai Chi and he later learned wing chung.

Why do people keep asking Master Wong to fight MMA/UFC? Most of the moves he demonstrates in his videos, e.g. hard elbow to the spine, chopping the neck/trachea, sidestep and punch the back of the head, wrist-lock, break/smash opponent's hand, elbows, etc., are all illegal in the UFC. UFC fighters don't even bother protecting their groin when they fight (because they know it's illegal to attack the groin). Cage fighting ≠ real life street fighting.

I'm glad you pointed out the obvious. You've got good common sense. Unlike those who don't really listen carefully and just like to open there mouth. They should go and see master Wong them selves as i'm sure he will knock some sense in to them.

Great comments. Also look what happens in mma when a opponent takes a accidental finger to the eye. They pause for a min or two at times while the guy acts completely helpless and blind. Mma fans talk badly about arts like kung fu, but what would a simple finger jab do to someone on the street? Could it help a "weaker" person escape/ defend from a 'stronger" attacker?
@DJEmirMixtapes
@DJEmirMixtapes 9 жыл бұрын
The reality is MMA fighters train hard as hell. There was a time when Kung Fu fighters trained 10x harder than any MMA fighter today, for the most part those days have past, only a few train like that now. But still people forget there are rules in MMA and sometimes we see them get hit just near the groin and the fight is stopped for a little bit. You know how quick a snap kick is to the groin, we saw a front snap kick to the face end an MMA fight and that is taught at white belt level that was all the way to the chin and a snap kick to the groin has less distance to travel. Personally I feel a kick to the groin in MMA should be allowed, if they can't defend their vital parts what good are they in a fight anyway? People forget as someone is trying to choke you a quick squeeze on the balls and fights probably over. It's just not realistic unless you submit them quickly and some of them do have that degree of skill so don't ever count out either side. Real fights can go in any direction. I've seen little guys take down big guys with even bigger egos and I've seen skill dominate brute strength and sometimes vise versa.

I am turning 33 June and always followed martial arts as a child. Loved all of the movies and used to rent....yea "rent" 👀 documentaries and watch training. Unfortunately, I ended up boxing. I just have a true love and respect for this. I enjoy watching the master teach wing chun. I immediately think of Bruce Lee watching the passion behind the words and seeing the dedication behind each strike and movement. I'm currently taking morning classes under a Sensei. Thank you so much for having this on KZbin. I pray my kids follow the art for the health and well being.

Master Wong, I like the way that you break things down and show us exactly what we need to know. When you have to fight on the street, every technique is another weapon in your arsenal that you can use. If they know Tai Chi Chuan, for instance, you can use a Jiu Jitsu move to throw them off or maybe you could use a Tae Kwon Do move that's slightly different from Tai Chi Chuan style. If you switch them up, they never know what's coming.

oh...my...god i knew waterbending was inspired and by tai chi (taichiquan) but the resemblance is unbelievable. turning the opponent's energy against them, a good defense is the best offense. plus the way he redirects his movements is like he controls his motions... much like bloodbending that's why waterbending is my favorite

Yes, current Taichi is intentionally slowed down for healing purposes. Master Wong has gone back to tthe roots, adding dynamics and stregth to the same movements, ultimately remaking Taichi to serve its original purpose. Awesame, it is! Paul,69, retired instructor of Karate.

Hi Paul, thanks for sharing your thoughts on Tai Chi! It’s wonderful to see your enthusiasm for its original purpose. As you mentioned, Tai Chi indeed has profound healing benefits, and I’ve incorporated dynamic elements that enhance strength and movement. Master Linh taught me that true growth starts from within, which is essential for mastering Tai Chi. I’ve witnessed incredible transformations in both health and mindset when people focus on holistic growth. For more insights on Tai Chi, visit our website: taichimaster.net. Don’t miss our upcoming seminar on KT3. How has your training influenced your daily life, Paul? I’d love to hear more about your journey!

Kung fu employs things like throat grabs/strikes, wrist and joint attacks, groin strikes. It wouldn't be fair to expect a Kung fu guy to fight under ufc rules.
@leondelafonte
@leondelafonte 9 жыл бұрын
hank hill Yeah, but we train with those rules in mind, so our reflexes are geared towards the conditions of the ring. The kung-fu fighter would have to unlearn a plethora of moves before competing. I personally wouldn't count the kung-fu fighter out in a no rules street fight though. He's not very likely to win if they started grappling, but throat, groin, joint and spine attacks are powerful techniques.
@leondelafonte
@leondelafonte 9 жыл бұрын
hank hill It's not that easy when you're dealing with muscle memory and instincts. If a Kung fu fighter's spent 20 years of his life practicing wrist breaking techniques and throat strikes in combat situations he has to unlearn all those years of hard coding. It puts him at a disadvantage if he suddenly has to not employ them just to fight in an MMA match.

some people dont understand that, chinese martial arts arent meant for Cage fighting like filty animals. its an beautiful art, as a self defense and as a culture in china. This is why Westerners are being brainwashed by mma cuz everytime, They always compare it to Mma or ufc. like keep it to ur self and stop disrespecting The chinese culture. Some sore losers Goes crazy when they see chinese martial dominates they'll start saying ohhh that muay thai guy isnt real. blah blah blah. seriously?just dont disrespect and dont watch the video. and waste ur time. keep it to yourselves. ty

+SquidPlaysGames | IOS/PC When it comes to my safety I'd rather know how to stop someone from dumping me on my head, and breaking my face. If you want to practice a beautiful art, practice a beautiful art. If you want to defend yourself from a savage, the beautiful arts don't generally help as much. Sometimes they do, but they are often better ways. It all depends on your individual goals.

+SquidPlaysGames | IOS/PC Right on, man. You can use a lot of what you train for defense, but understand that a large percentage of fights end up on the ground. There will always be the dumb stereotypes of MMA fans, but one thing that gets me riled up is when people market a martial art as practical when it isn't. Kata for instance is great at learning a movement pattern, but completely goes out the window in a real fight. Another thing to consider is that while this instructor is probably a legit badass, keep in mind that while he is demonstrating these counters the attacker has ceased throwing punches. In a real situation the punches keep coming, and often times when people get this close they tend to grab on another. It's pretty rare that you're gonna shove someone, or dump them on the ground without them at least grabbing your shirt sleeve. My point is you don't know what works until it's done in real time. Kudos to you for sticking with any martial art. There's always something to make us better humans.

I hate the disrespect between practitioners of different arts, "this is bullshito" or "such and such mma guy would kill him". No, we must observe, listen and respect and we can learn. I don't do Wing Chun or Tai Chi but I can see beauty and skill in most arts, some will work for me better than others, does that devalue the other persons art? Not at all. We live in a fantastic time where martial arts are accessible to all and are being adapted/evolving in practical ways plus we get to see superb characters like Master Wong who can embed these skills in peoples minds with his charismatic approach.

Tai Chi has became a show-only business and health exercise for a centaury. Great to see the normally slow-mode Tai Chi is replayed to its original speed in the right scene. Only 1 out of 1000 Tai Chi masters can do that. I guess today's slow-mode Tai Chi was formed through inheriting demonstration movements of real combat movements.

There is a difference between learning martial arts and applying it in fights. You can't just train for a month and think you can use it in a street fight. People need to understand that first before jumping in to train

You're very naive. Videos are not going to teach any fighting art, nobody made that claim, it's for advertising classes obviously. Only years of training under a teacher like him will make someone to be reckoned with in fighting. Once you develop those skills, and become as good as master Wong, which again will take 10 years or more depending n your age (you may never get there) then whoever decides to attack someone like master Wong, is the one fucking with his life. You're an idiot.
@awhodothey

No, these techniques are not going to work on any boxer, no matter how much you train. Look how weak the attacker was in this video? How could the master ever allow his techniques to be demonstrated against such weak attacks? Who punches like that attacker or completely drops their hands after a kick? How did the master not notice that no one attacks like this? This video is not designed to teach real fighting techniques. Train these ten techniques for a year, and try them against any style boxer. They will not work. They are based on the way people used to fight, not how they fight today.
@awhodothey

Vincent Gaspar No, it hasn't. That is false. I use a lot of kung fu still, but I have heavily modified it. Tai chi was very effective against kung fu, and can be very effective with some modification in a modern street fight. The top masters in the world couldn't use it unmodified against a low ranking professional muay thai fighter. It simply wasn't designed for that. There are real tai chi masters who know how to use tai chai in a real fight (Master Clear is one). This is not what that looks like, and this teacher is not one of those masters. This is fake fighting. (And almost all of the kung fu taught in China today is garbage.) These techniques are unlikely to work against any amateur fighter. Give a friend a pair of gloves, tell him to try to knock your head off, and try these techniques.
@awhodothey
@awhodothey 6 жыл бұрын
Vincent Gaspar Try these moves on someone. Nobody punches like that. They will not work. Or doesn't even need to be a real fight. Go to a boxing gym and practice your tai chi on someone who can throw a punch. Or keep pretending you know when neither you nor your master have ever been in a real fight against any skilled non-kung fu fighter.

Makes sense , and I believe the way he’s deflecting the opponent ‘s punching . Street fight application’s are usually wild flaring punches. So using the simple deflection into grappling or tripping or pushing is the correct concept. Get what you can grab from this video and practice.

Hey there, it's Master Wong here, and I saw a comment about the versatility of Tai Chi that I just had to respond to! 😎 First off, I totally agree that one of the great things about Tai Chi is that it can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age or physical ability. Plus, the slow, flowing movements can be a fantastic way to improve your balance, flexibility, and relaxation. 🙏 But when it comes to using Tai Chi in a street fight, things can get a little trickier. While Tai Chi does involve some self-defense techniques, it's not necessarily designed for quick, high-intensity combat like you might encounter in a real-world situation. 🤔 That being said, the principles and techniques of Tai Chi can definitely be helpful in defending yourself against a bully. By cultivating your focus, balance, and awareness through regular practice, you'll be better equipped to react quickly and effectively if someone tries to attack you. 💪 Of course, the best way to prepare for a potential street fight is to train specifically for that scenario. That's where something like Wing Chun, which is a more combat-oriented martial art, can come in handy. But no matter what style of training you choose, the most important thing is to stay dedicated and never let anyone bully you! 👊 So, to sum up: Tai Chi is awesome for improving your overall health and well-being, and it can definitely be useful in a self-defense situation. But for serious street-fighting skills, you'll want to supplement your training with something more specialized. 💥 Train hard, live clean, and don't let anyone push you around! Master Wong out! 💪 Oh, and don't forget to check out my exclusive Inner Circle at store.masterwong.tv/ for even more training tips and resources! 🔥
