As Brann and Bill's friend from Rochester, this is the first time I've heard him talk so much about his sister and her tragic passing, this is making me cry. Brann is such a good guy he traveled with my band as a "tech" and stayed at Steve Austin's studio with us while we recorded in a band called Bughouse from Rochester. I wish I knew how bad he was hurting, probably still at that time, it was just something I knew because of his neck tattoo and people respected his privacy. Now, I look back and thought he was a drum god then because of Lethargy and all the shows we did together, they were so far ahead of their time and no one was as good as Brann. We loved Jack Daniels and pretty much talked through the night away outside in a park outside of Boston and none of this ever came up. I should really see how he's doing these days.... Wow this was deep.

I watched a Mastodon documentary before the interview where Bill said Brann often comes up with the album title and concepts for their records. I wondered if he’d always been mega creative even as a kid, that’s why I asked. Especially as drummers don’t often get enough credit for being major creative/songwriting forces. I personally found it interesting that dude directed his own plays as a little kid but I can totally understand it would come off as a weird question without that context, which I would have included if I wasn’t outrageously tired (and way too caffeinated) at 2am my time (never doing that again). - CR

@@revolver Yeah, people are being unnecessarily harsh and judgemental. Hope you won't let them get at you too much. The question you wanted an answer to wasn't the question you asked but, given the context of being up in the middle of the night, caffeinated, and likely dealing with the nerves of doing something like this, it's all totally understandable. Keep it up and thanks for the content!

Brann just reviled what I hoped for since I heard the first song from the new album they dropped.. I presume they don't want to spoil what's coming in the album with the songs they let us hear thus far, so there's a strong hope the rest of the album will be more heavy than the three songs they released (don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy every single one of them, I just miss earlier (heavier) mastodon stuff).. Overall the interview was good, but there were some terrible questions. The one concerning bugs was a real head scratcher.

It's a conversation on zoom not a slick interview with no latency issues to not worry about.

Latency issues are a pain but people's willingness to cry about an interviewer rather than offer positive criticism is telling of their own failures rather than her own. This is a real person, she is going to read your comment, she read a comment and replied to me on a video she made A YEAR AGO, the other day. You are much much closer to people on the internet that you realise.

Death wins obviously. The black album?! What a shitty contest. Anything DEATH did takes the black album out back and beats it nearly to death and then drowns it while fucking it. That's a joke right?

no, it's not. Black Album was pretty good actually and i think it's still valid to talk about which major album from 1991 is better or preferable, even if it's probably human imo as well.
