I’m in Japan now for the first time in my life and I’ll be here for another 3 weeks the craftsmanship and attention to detail that they put into every thing they make is insane. Even their food. They just know nothing else besides quality. It is a way of life to them.

I hate to generalize...but they really are just the best at everything haha!

Craftsmanship, and honor. That is the Japanese way of life. We should all look up to them honestly

I've got a Masutani Hamono Nakiri that I adore, I bought it specifically because I love their dedication to making great affordable knives. Very cool video.

I have so much respect for all the blackmiths, but it amazes me how these 60s and 70s year old are still doing it, creating pieces of art, even though it's such a hard work.

Hard to say but he is at least in his 70th. Maybe 80ths.. amazing that he still does such work

This was nice to see as I have fond a knife from Masutani I would like. But how does stamped blades work? Well, I get that there are other blacksmiths that makes the blade themself, but are they made after his specification and then he and his family finishes the blade and handle? (kinda like how say Apple dont make anything themself, but by their specification/blueprint?)

Are any of these shops available for someone like myself to schedule a visit and tour or is that an exclusive perk for folks who own knife shops and are purveyors of their products? It seems super cool, would love to see it for myself.

Most of the smiths we visited had gift shops open to the public and everyone was incredibly friendly! If you spoke Japanese you might hav a good chance of getting shown around!

Why they don't make Gyuto 210 mm length?

Nice video. Thank you for taking us. My wife is Japanese, so if you had shown the knives Kanjis she could have read it and tell you the meaning of the characters

You HAVE to use your knives. I think not using them insults the blades and ages them faster.
