Mat Foundation Design in CSI SAFE 2016

Sir, I have a problem unlocking the model after completing the run analysis in Safe2016. I have imported load reactions from etabs 2016. Please suggest solving the problem of unlocking the model. I hope your suggestion and thanks.

can i use data from ETABS 2018 on SAFE 2016? which software is good to design MAT if i am using ETABS.

Although I did not use ETABS 18, but in my opinion, you should be able to transfer data from ETABS 2018 to SAFE 2016. Certainly SAFE is a better choice.

Hi, Good day! I'm designing mat foundations, and I'm getting 48.96mm settlement due to DL + LL + EQ (linear add - service normal). The allowable settlement for mat foundation is 50mm. It is only almost 1mm difference. Should I add piles on my mat foundation or should I change combination type and design selection on load combination data. Thank you in advance. God bless.

Please let me know the level of seismicity, i.e. the seismic category of the structure. Secondly, please give me the reference of 50mm settlement from code. Are you following ACI? Please refer to Chapter 18 of ACI 318-14.

@@msajjadh it is only based on some tutorials here in youtube. They said 25mm for isolated footing, and 50mm for mat footing. It is necessary to check the deformation/settlement of foundation at CSI SAFE? Some people told me it is not necassary on the said software.

@@lordetoygallenero2314 As per ACI 318-14 code, there is no such limits. However, it is a general practice to follow. In your particular case, since the information is not complete, I can not say anything at this stage. Please share your detailed calculation. Regards,

@@msajjadh I'm designing mild steel/stainless steel storage tanks with diameter and height ranging 10m-15m. I used manual computation based on API 650. I designed the rafters at STAAD. After that I model the tank foundation at STAAD and transfer the loads to SAFE. It is ringwall with mat footing.

@@lordetoygallenero2314 For API 650 Tank foundation, a ring wll is designed. There is a complete procedure for designing such foundations. I do design such foundation and perform manual calculations. You can increase the width of the ring wall foundation to lower the settlement.
