I will always be a believer that any art (photography, dance, theatre, and music) is open to interpretation. As an atheist, I never and I mean NEVER thought that this song was about God. I viewed it as a romantic relationship rather than a spiritual one. In my head, it is linked to Ships In The Night. I think he is just saying that it is a fact that this song is about God. We know the intention behind it where most art you're referring to the intention isn't quite declared. The song even directly refers to biblical verses. So sure, you can apply the song to love in general, but it is undeniably about love for God. And one more thing, Mat Kearney himself said he is a practicing christian, and this is one of his songs with christian lyrics, along with Girl America and Closer To Love, so YES this is a christian song, sorry for those of you who have a problem with that, we should all really stop categorizing things so much, i mysef happen to be allowed to feel The Spirit when listening to alot of songs that arent christian songs, but the lyrics or a certain line will speak to my heart as a christian, im not blessed with musical talent but i would think its a compliment to any artist if their work can be interpreted and enjoyed in a multitude of circumstances.

Wow this is amazing. I'm a Christian who minimizes secular music and if I listen to a non "Jesus" song i choose pure ones.
