I love the respect and the humilty of american riders, ben spies in motogp now and mladin at ama.. 2 beautiful persons, i really respect them from the deepest part of my heart because at that level of any sport is not rare.. it is unic to see this kind of persons ;)

I'm not taking anything away from ben but i've witnessed him and matt pretty much leave the field in their wake weekend after weekend..mat could have shattered all the ama superbike records easily.ben could have done the same but in that business oppurtunity only knocks once......so i give ben alot of credit for making the moves that he did......it was best for what i think will be a record breaking career if healthy.......matt is still one of the best suzuki pilots i've had the pleasure to see

Hi Mat, although i respect your opinion and i believe if there's anyone who can judge accurately on this matter it's you, i disagree. Rossi has done so much more than spies has done, (and some can argue will ever do). Rossi has been racing gp's since '96, when spies was barely 12 yrs old, and nicky hayden also beat you when he was 19 and came out of AMA to gp premier class to be rossi's team mate.

Let's not forget, in that time frame Ben won 3 AMA SB titles, Mat actually won more races then Ben. Ben was just more consistent when he didn't finish on top of the box - if i'm not mistaken, 1 season he didn't finish lower than 2nd. So even though Ben got the championship; Mat beat Ben, more than Ben beat Mat.

Ben IS a great rider, but Rossi is still the best in the world. The end of this season will be interesting with riders shuffling and speculation. More than likely Ben will ride the Fiat Yamaha, I'm guessing with Jorge Lorenzo in which I put my money on Lorenzo. Jorge has pushed Rossi harder than anybody, including Nicky and Casey. If there is any torch passing, it's goin to Jorge.

C'mon man! Spies was damn good, but you never raced anybody better? What about Rainey/Schwantz/Doohan?! Granted, you probably only saw them in the pits, but still, you were in races with them.

Matt saying in his racing prime Spies was the best he has raced against. In 1993 GP yes he did race against Rainey/Schwantz/ Doohan, but Matt was fighting for 10th place on a sub-par Cagiva.

@@radrcer Sub par his team mate did way better he was always a big fish in a small pond i remmber him saying he would whip the wsbk guys at laguna saca and the best he ever did was 4th in 2003 he then didnt race the second race cause he said he was exhausted funny his teammate rode both ama races and both sbk races.

Spies is extremely talented and I think he'll be World Champion some day but to compare him to Valentino Rossi is a bit much. Rossi is only the greatest Motorcycle racer of all time while Spies can't keep up with his teammate right now.

Sorry to say I have little respect for a rider who had to cheat to stay at the top and to try and beat his own team mate. Matt was a very good rider but a big fish in a small pond. He should have moved on to WSBK after his first 2 or 3 titles?

He would have dominated WSBK like Ben did. He was making way more money in the AMA . Spies to a big pay cut to go to WSBK but he had a plan to get to motogp

he didn't cheat... or do anything his teammates weren't also doing (if you are referring to the illegal crank shaft disqualification. Tommy and Ben had the same spec). Mat has also said a million times that he already did motorcycle racing in Europe before he came to the US. he was content to finish out his career in the US.
