0:29 steve asks her if she liked it and she's like nah uh lol. leave it to MIA to make us rethink the function of a film festival panel interview, who else would be so honest? that said, it's been a really interesting discussion to hear them talk cos it really makes u consider what and how a documentary can adequately represent if at all or the limits of the subject. i mean how often do you hear the subject of the documentary engaging the director in such a way? it's great, steve is also doing a good job at engaging in that convo. so in a way this tension is a good moment, and MIA being the person she is will only be better for it. every thing MIA does she does it in a way that you become aware of the conventions that go unquestioned. it'd be weird if it was just a sleek and sterile affair.

MIA is amazing for allowing this to happen. The authenticity of her artistry is absolutely reinforced by being able to allow someone else to have complete control over her story. That said, I think this guy had good intentions, but I think he hijacked her story and her narrative and kind of minimized her creativity in favor of expressing his own cliche political views. I agree with him, but I think it is a little tacky to take a person and make them ALL about their struggle. Still of course love MIA and will support the documentary. Maybe it's for the best that it's not just about "wow how amazing is she," but also about real human, life on earth shit.

the thing is with the documentary, it has solidified her work and what she has stood for since forever, no one ever can discredit her or her cause now like media, companies and all legally powerful entities tried to slander her authenticity before.

Anyone know of another video of this QnA with better audio? It seems like there’s a lot of passive aggression here lol
