Of course not, you are used to so many movies using this type of editing. But this was the first movie to have ever done so ever and it was such a shocking and impressive moment, especially since at that time you had to edit by hand. Nowadays it's a very easy cut to make.

It's really one of those things you have to see in theaters to appreciate. When its on a massive screen and you can see the scope of it, it really changes it

@@Magey_McMage I saw this movie in theaters one time (the local theater was playing a 70mm version for an anniversary I think) and yeah when that cut happened it nearly took my breath away. The sheer size and scope of this movie is just amplified when seen in a theater.

I always thought it should have been a slow-mo fade transition to the sand dunes and sunrise, rather than an abrupt cut.
