Well unfortunately our match fishing for the year has now come to an end. I twas the last comp, and it was due to be held at Fort Victoria. Unfortunately it was super windy so the venue had to be changed, and we fished just a few hundred yards down the beach at Norton Wall. I only needed to catch to take the title for 2023, so have a watch to see how I did.

Well done, but that rig you started on had 4 hooks which wouldn’t be allowed in any comps I’ve ever fished. Only 3 snoods but the bottom snood was a pennel which would count as two of your hooks in most matches.

Hey buddy, yeah I think there's obviously different rules around. Our rules are a pennel counts as one, if it's in one bait, and I think all the clubs on the island are the same. Some clubs the pennel has to be within a certain distance to be allowed as one hook, like 3 inches or similar. Most of our comps are two rods four hooks, pennel counts as one👍👍🎣🎣

Thanks mate, yeah I definitely think consistency is key with it. To take the trophy at the end of the season it's about weighing in as often as possible. I've weighed in some small fish, and they have saved my bacon. I missed one comp as well, so I'm stoked to still take it home👍🎣🎣🎣

Just a simple question. Surely if you use a penal rig it counts as 2 hooks. So if you use a 3 hook clip down and one is a penal you are using 4 hooks. Is this allowed in match fishing.🐳🐳🐳🐳🐳

No worries bud. It's completely down to the rules of the individual club. All clubs will have different rules. Some is one are one rod 3 hooks, some are 2 rods 3 hooks, some clubs count a pennel as one hook. Some only allow it as one if there are within a certain distance of each other, for example 3 inches apart in one bait. Our club is generally 2 rods, 4 hooks, pennel counts as one. But we do have some venues we fish with one rod and 3 hooks, again pennel counts as one. You'll see even on the British record regulation's a pennel counts as one, if the hooks are within a certain distance. Hope that helps👍👍🎣🎣
