Love the comments by Gene and then Richard playing off Joan at 13:15. Joan was enjoying Richard's imitation.

Scoey's "Straw" answer was so creatively bad that you had to give him props for coming up with it and giving a stupid but plausible reason.

With that win Richard has now giving away 650,000 dollars thanks to MGPM.

I would like to think if they brought this back sooner when he was alive, Charles Nelson Reilly would've been a great host for this after Gene
@RobertBowman-j7c22 күн бұрын
CNR was on when Ross Shaffer was host. Gene was still alive, but retired, because he was considered too old and couldn’t sell the show. He sued and lost.

A little slow week this week but Patti Deutsch won the week giving away 5,500 dollars in head to head and audience match matches with 8 matches for the semi regulars! ;0) Charles gave away 1,750 dollars in a head to head and audience match matches with 12 matches for the regulars.

End-of-week H/H match recap: ... This week we had 5 H/H matches total, only 1 of which was successful: Charles 0/2, Patti 1/1, Richard 0/2 The week got off to an unusual start. Instead of Richard, Charles was selected Monday and Tuesday, but he's having a cold streak, missing the H/H match three times in a row now. No worries, he's still ahead of his two co-regulars by a comfortable margin in the accuracy department. And then on Wednesday, Patti is chosen for the second time ever, and scores her first match! This is definitely the H/H highlight of the week, because not only was it the only time a contestant won the big bucks, but it was a joy to see Patti finally matching when it really counts! She's a familiar MG face, and despite her occasional weird and wacky 6th-seat responses, she's clearly a bright woman and a sharp player. (And she seems sweet as well.) After that, it's back to form. On Thursday the contestant (a true fan of the show) selects Richard because he says he has good luck matching him at home. Unfortunately, that luck didn't hold up on the MG stage, because the contestant's brain misfires (I imagine it's a lot more stressful and harder to think up there in front of the cameras and the studio audience) and he says Yule Time instead of Yule Tide. Can't blame Richard for that one. And on Friday, the new champion wisely ignores Richard's audience match suggestion, but ends up choosing him for the H/H match anyway. Unfortunately for the contestant, Richard's response of "King Rat" - a movie that Richard reminds us that he appeared in - was perhaps a tad obscure, even back then (the film came out in 1965). No match. At the end of the program, Gene asks Joan what she thought since it was her first week on Match Game. "And probably my last," she quips. Indeed, this was her sole week on Match Game '7x. Next week might be a little odd with Gary filling in for CNR (it's only for one week this time), plus two new faces on the panel: Robert Urich and Jaime Lyn Bauer each make their first and only week-long visit to the MG '7x stage. (If I were producing the show, I'd never book two new celebrities on the same week at this point.) But we get Fannie back, so that's a plus! Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 50% (9 wins in 18 attempts). Betty - 48.4% (15 wins in 31 attempts). Charles - 45.2% (19 wins in 42 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Brett - 39.1% (18 wins in 46 attempts). Richard - 38.6% (113 wins in 293 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 540, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

Does anyone know the format when MG polled the audiences? Did someone ask them, "Please fill in the blank: Bi - blank." Was it written, as in "Please write up to three words that begin "Bi-"? "Which of these words do you think best completes the word 'bi-blank'? Or what? I honestly seriously doubt that 'bisexual' was the second most common response.

Am I crazy? Because the only answer I could think of for the Kojak question was "LOLLIPOP". He was famous for having one in his mouth in every episode. And I think Joan was right when she said that this would be her only week of appearances. I'm pretty sure she didn't return. She was just to sophisticated for the show. I did like her answer of "TOOLS" though. Made me chuckle. Oh and this was an instant classic episode. GOLD STAR for sure.

I'm sorry. I have had it. I keep trying to watch this series from the eyes of someone in the 1970s, but Gene Rayburn continues to be the modern penny hidden in the pocket of my suit. I find him grossly (pun intended) sexual and annoying. Not even Charles, for his off-colour answer for matching "Bi", is nearly as annoying as Gene. I shall continue to watch, but nothing can again make me enjoy this show in its entirety as I did 50 years ago as a boy. Until I reach the end of the series, he will continue to plague me.
