Every country picks one dialect as its standard dialect that is taught to school children, used in print media and government documents, etc. In the US, the Standard American English dialect sounds Midwestern. And, as in other countries, people who speak the standard dialect typically mock people who speak a different dialect. It's evolutionary, as it was always safer not to trust people who didn't sound like your tribe/group. My mother's side of the family is Southern, and I find most Southern accents easier on the ear even though I don't speak with one myself.

Reminds me a bit of the Bee Gees on Clive Anderson's show of old. He made quip after quip outright mocking the men and their music. You could see Barry Gibb getting twitchy and struggling to suppress his anger. Eventually he couldn't get any more -- got up, and his bros went with him. Perhaps you've seen it?

Did not appreciate the sophomoric behavior everyone put towards Jerry. Dawson referenced Jerry killing them and he knew they were overstepping their ribbing. Jerry was too kind, plus his Cossell answer was spot on and should have matched almost everyone, but you have idiots like Patti who write "cow chips."
