End-of-week H/H match recap: ... There were only 4 H/H matches this week, but 3 were successful: Richard 3/4 (None on Wednesday, the contestant struck out on the audience match.) It was all Richard all week again, but his hot streak over the past couple of months has boosted his accuracy score to just over 40% for the first time ever! In fact, he's been the overwhelming choice for the H/H match for the past 12 weeks or so, and in 4 of those weeks he was the only choice. Obviously, no other H/H stats changed this week: Dick finishes the week with the same 1 unsuccessful attempt that he started with. ---Looking ahead to next week, our three regulars are joined by sixth-seat semi-regular Fannie Flagg! ---William Shatner returns for his second and final Match Game '7x week. He made his debut in episodes 136-140 back in early 1974 and was never chosen for the H/H match. ---Julie Harris gets the #4 seat, and is the latest in a long string of "one-and-done" stars to grace the panel. (And speaking of next week, here's a random thought: Since today's game ends in the middle of a tiebreaker on a "Friday" show, the contestants will have to wait and come back to a new panel to finish. Fortunately, the wait won't be long: The Mark Goodson Wiki/Match Game episode guide says episodes 586-590 were taped on October 18, 1975, and episodes 591-595 were taped on October 19. There's a second consideration though: People often comment on certain celebs giving bad or comic answers instead of trying to match the contestants. I think this isn't a terribly valid criticism as both contestants are trying to match the same celebs, so if one star always gives weird or bad answers, it really doesn't affect the game, because that star answers an equal number of questions for both contestants. However, today, one contestant had to try to match this week's 3 non-regular celebs, and the other contestant will have 3 different celebrities to try to match next week. It's entirely possible that the new group might be better at the game, giving an advantage to the player who had to wait. Or, alternatively, the new group might have more "weirdos" in it who are prone to bad/silly/dumb answers, meaning that the player who had to wait will be at a disadvantage. Just one tiny quirk of the game.) ---Today's H/H action: A new champion was crowned at the end of the last program, and she won $100 on the audience match as time ran out. So we start today's show with her much-awaited H/H match... She makes the customary choice. Today's question: " Hour ______ " I'll say "Glass." (I swear the questions have been much easier on average lately.) Richard thought of an answer as quickly as I did. *Ding!* The contestant says "glass" and the audience breaks out in wild applause. Richard makes a "yikes" face (unusual... he normally has a poker face). I think he's bluffing to add suspense. What else could he have said? I still can't think of a decent alternative... Of course he wrote glass! ...and Richard scores his 132nd H/H match. Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 52.6% (10 wins in 19 attempts). Betty - 46.9% (15 wins in 32 attempts). Charles - 45.2% (19 wins in 42 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 40.1% (132 wins in 329 attempts). Brett - 38.0% (19 wins in 50 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 590, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

Slow week again but once again Richard won the week for the regulars giving away 16,100 dollars in audience match and head to head matches with 16 matches. Betty won for the semi regulars with 9 matches. Charles gave away 100 dollars in an audience match match.

Richard didn't give away anything. It wasn't his money. He helped contestants win. And he could do that only because contestants chose him to help. The contestants also had to make other correct answers and choices.

So Pat is a poker dealer in Las Vegas? Wow, that's no joke, you've got to be really good to do that. And of course she's gorgeous. But the submarine question was a dick joke, and you can't say that on TV, so "nose" is usually the correct response. On the other hand, "head'" kind of... well, you know. And she matched two!

It's called comedy. Paul Lynde was a very big star on Hollywood Squares. Richard is making a joke. There are a couple toxic people who go hormonal anytime Richard's name is mentioned. It's sad really that they can't find anything positive to say or can't just remain silent.
