This episode has a lot of great things in it. Fannie has the funniest spelling for Connecticut today during the opening of Match Game 76. Gene also welcomes Bennye Getteys to the panel.
During the Super Match, Gene announces a special congratulations to Richard Dawson for getting his own show, Family Feud. Family Feud wouldn't be announced much on Match Game anymore for the CBS Version.
Bill Daily, Brett Somers, Charles Nelson Reilly, Benneye Getteys, Richard Dawson, and Fannie Flagg

Gotta give credit to Richard Dawson - he was slick. Game Show King of that era - MG was #1 while he was on it - then he went to Family Feud - soon thereafter FF went to #1.

When a person is overly-nervous and hyper before an audience, the Truth often comes out. "He's the best husband in the world . . . except when he gets mad at me". Richard seems to notice, and in the next episode he asks, "Is your husband still beating you?". Poor girl.
@inkyguy
@inkyguy 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a famously quintessential leading question. Answering either way indicts the husband for wife beating. Often the scenario is one in which the man is queried: “Tell me, sir, yes or no, do you still beat your wife?” It is impossible for the defendant to answer without incriminating himself.

That was rather nice of him. And then it was rarely mentioned again outside of the syndicated night time episodes, though it was vaguely mentioned on the first episode with the new set, recorded shortly after Richard Dawson hosted the Daytime Emmy Awards, and won the Emmy for Outstanding Host or Hostess in a Game or Audience Participation Show.

Gene did on a few occasions ask Richard how Family Feud was going. Keep in mind Feud was on another network so perhaps they didn't wanna plug it too much. That's why Johnny Olson usually only said 'From Family Feud, Richard Dawson' during the syndicated nighttime episodes. However on the New Year's Eve episode of MG76 Mark Goodson came out to thank everyone and did mention Family Feud when thanking Richard. :)

@@sdlively27, the producers Goodson and Todman were attempting a “straight” game show with none of the banter and joking _à la Hollywood Squares._ However, according to IMDb, the “boobs” answer by a guest in one of the early episodes caused the ratings to soar, and the producers wisely chose not to get in the way of their (and the network’s) success. Which should be obvious. As Gene Rayburn himself commented a few episodes back, “this is no great intellectual show.” Its success lies in it being a televised adaptation of an dinner party parlor game with bright, witty and funny guests who literally entertain us for 30 minutes (with commercials, which is what all of the shows exist for). This is literally what people with means did before television for entertainment, but most of us don’t get to host these kinds of witty, entertaining folks for dinner and drinks and an evening of parlor games.
