I remember the "Dumb Dora" question from when this show aired. I was 14, and I told and retold that question until all my friends and family were sick of hearing it. What a great memory!!

H/H match update: ... Today's action: It's one of those magical days! We start right off with my favorite part of the show! Quick recap: as time ran out yesterday, our champion had won his second game, and scored $500 on the audience match with his own answer! (Smart guy!) For his first go at the H/H, he chose Richard, but they didn't match. We're about to find out if he sticks with Richard or tries another panelist? (I'm guessing it's Richard.) "Richard, please," says our champ. Today's (first) H/H question: "_______ Scotch" (I'm glad I'm not standing up there. I'm drawing a blank! ...At the last second I thought of butterscotch.) Richard seems similarly puzzled (in his lucky tennis racket sweater that he's worn many, many times, but not recently), scratching the back of his neck and frowning at his blank card. The champion, on the other hand, looks cool, calm, and collected as the think music plays. Cutting back to Richard, the camera catches him finishing his answer which he files with a quick glance at Fannie. The contestant says "Hop" and the audience cheers. (That sounds obvious now that I hear it, but I don't think butterscotch is terrible.) Richard's expression is inscrutable as always. He doesn't bother with a fake-out today. Just a slow, dramatic reveal: "Hop." Richard scores his 184th H/H match. ~~~ Our champion just needed one "teacher" to win his third game, and he got it right off the bat from Gary. Today's audience match question: "Throwing _________" (My thoughts: in the towel, a fit, up) The celebs: Gary (Up), Fannie (Darts), and Charles (a fit) The choice: Up The answers: A Fit, A Ball, Up Barfing was good for another $500, despite Gene's displeasure with the answer. I like how the champion mixes it up a little bit when calling on the celebs. I think he's gotten to the entire panel already. There's unlikely to be any drama for his next choice though, as he's chosen Richard both times, and matched the second time (earlier today). Richard is chosen. He's matched six of his ten most recent attempts, so he's on a relative hot streak. Today's (second) H/H question: "Rocket _______ " (I want to say Rocket Man -- the 1972 Elton John song -- but I know the panel never seems too current on popular music, so maybe something more generic like rocket ship? That's my final answer.) Richard starts writing almost before Gene finishes reading the question. He files his card in about five seconds flat. The contestant confidently answers "Ship" and the audience cheers. Richard does what Richard does - no clues from his expression. Again, he doesn't bother with a fake-out today. He simply whips out the winning answer. "Ship." Richard scores his 185th H/H match. ~~~I've been keeping a tally of celebs who score two H/H matches in a single show, and Richard's done it several times now: (The celebs are listed in order of the first episode they achieved a double H/H match. Unfortunately, I didn't start noting this achievement until episode 111, so it's possible there was an instance prior to episode 111...) Charles scored 2 H/H matches in episode 111. Jo Ann Pflug scored 2 H/H matches in episode 148. Richard scored 2 H/H matches in episode 193, 218, 622, 654, 757. Fannie scored 2 H/H matches in episode 332. Gary scored 2 H/H matches in episode 412. ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Charles - 51.0% (27 wins in 53 attempts). TIE: Betty - 50.0% (18 wins in 36 attempts). TIE: Fannie - 50.0% (11 wins in 22 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Brett - 41.9% (26 wins in 62 attempts). Richard - 41.5% (185 wins in 446 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 757, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

In January of 1978, Major Margaret Hoolihan experiences symptoms of pregnancy. She is afraid of losing her Army career and goes to Hawkeye to seek advice. He solicits Radar's pet rabbit for the pregnancy test...which meant killing the bunny to check the ovaries post mortem. Radar absolutely refuses to martyr his pet, so Hawkeye does a delicate surgery on the rabbit to spare its life while calming Margaret's fears about an unplanned pregnancy. I was surprised and delighted to think that the plot for one of my all time favorite shows, MASH. owed homage to another of my all time favorite shows, Match Game! Whether the idea was deliberate or subliminal, I think it is a great tie in between the two!
@LynxSouth2 жыл бұрын
I thought of that MASH episode, too, and wonder if Gary mentioned the idea to the writers.

Ben to 10, Niagara Falls four times, and when my cousin got married many many years ago, I think it was like 1963 because I was about five years old, she told everybody in the family that her and her husband went down in the barrel on their honeymoon! Every time I went there, I looked in the book for their names, even her maiden name, and their names were not there! my dad always said that that side of the family was full of lies! But I believe this, and I had told people for years that they went down in a barrel! But they stopped it, because people were getting killed. How awful to go down Niagara Falls in a barrel, and then your spouse is gone! How horrible
