You can always count on "Tinkle" as being the definitive answer.

Love the 70s hairstyle! Match Game was great to come home to from Point Loma High School in the seventies when you had early morning gym and no late class! Gene, Brett, Charles, Richard, and all the other stars made Match Game the best; love the reruns on Game Show Network!

I'm interested in how they did the taping for this show. Did they do a weeks worth in one day and how many shows did they have to tape?
@wolfyhound9 жыл бұрын
+crystalheart9 I believe they taped from one week's to two week's worth of shows in one day, usually a saturday to work around all the panelists' work schedules. So they tape a show, change outfits and reset the stage and tape the next show, repeat until the lunch break then tape more. The rather infamous claim is that the shows taped after lunch were funnier because of how many cocktails the panelists had at lunch. Of course, as the day wears on, everyone tends to get a bit tired and you might not see as much fun either.

+wolfyhound I wondered how many shows they did in one taping. One week would be 2 1/2 hours and two weeks 5 hours and with the set changes and lunch break it could be a very long day. I have to hand it to Gene Rayburn and the panelists for keeping it fun. Especially Brett, Charles, Richard and Fannie. They were my favorites. Thanks for the information:)

Well, at one point they were ALSO recording Match Game PM for the evening, so it would have been at least 10 episodes in a day, every week. That's a full day all by itself.
@crissrudd45547 жыл бұрын
Actually two weeks worth of episodes were shot over the weekend. 5 on Saturday, 5 on Sunday not counting nighttime episodes.

According to the book "The Matchless Gene Rayburn", when they taped shows, they would do it every other weekend due to Gene's commute. They would bring in one audience, tape three shows, bring in another audience & tape two more. When they started doing PM, they would do two shows each for three different audiences. Of course they might also tape on additional days if they had the studio, but they could put 12 shows in the can in a weekend.

I don`t know why I never thought of this before, But I think Mary Wicks would have been a good Dorothy opposite Betty White`s character as Rose in the show The Golden Girls if they hadn't chosen Bea Arthur

I don't recall the movie, but Mary had a small role in a Tom Hanks movie and Hank's character comments to her "I loved you in The Wizard of Oz."

Seems some of the panelists are on the show simply because of their unpredictable or zany answers, not solely to match contestants. Seems it's more to mix it up and add interest or laughs to the show. Contestants know that's what they may get. That said, there are certain questions where we know there are "definitive" answers that are part of the inside joke.

Mary gripes about using "tinkle"...Well...that's too bad, Mary...you're supposed to MATCH the contestants!

in the previous ep, it seems like Mary was genuinely jealous of contestant Sandy - who's gorgeous!!......

I can't figure out if Mary is crabby or if it is her schtick, either way - it's annoying.

With all the wacky and ugly hairdos of eras past, I would have just wrote off the girl's pigtails as the norm for the '70s. Thank you Gene and panelist's for making me aware that even then it was weird! Haha!
