It was the time when Pakistan team was absolutely brilliant both in batting and bowling, whereas India used to rely mostly on Sachin & Azhar. But still matches were very exciting.. Miss those days..

If you think , Sehwag was great, Just check he averaged 36. He threw wicket on good wickets. Yuvraj had a great start to his career, and then a 3 year lul. He averaged 25 in first 80 games. India played well in all Sahara Cups. It was not complete surrender. Look at Pak side, each one of them barring 1-2 players is a match winner. Then compare to India which only had 5-6 good players at most, rest were average. Difference is huge. India started to win post 1999 coz, Dravid converted to a fantastic ODI player in middle overs. Yuvraj gave impetus although he truly took 4-5 years to convert to a real basher on a consistent basis. Sehwag presence meant you had a quick start and then Zaheer, Nehra, Kumble & Harbhajan made a formidable attack. Add Srinath to that list and you actuall had the strongest possible squad in 2003 with Agarkar n bench. Meanwhile in 90s, we had to be content with Robin Singh

For around 50 years, Indians were more focused on education studies and lesser outside play, because of not much money. Which has changed alot in last 10 years. That was an era which needs to be reckoned and cherished.

I don't think Pakistan and India are two separate countries, culture is same, people are same, in all other respect except religion and languages. But over all DNA and history is same. Watching Pakistani bowlers swing and yorker was always a delight. Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis etc were treat to eyes. India mein itni acchi bowling attack us zamaane mein kabhi rahi he nahin, may be Kapil Dev etc ke time pe thoda bahut thaa, but not even close to Paksitani bowling attack.

No you are wrong, you can't put Prasad and srinath in same slot. Srinath has been fastest indian bowler till date. Even people like Imran khan and Wasim Akram appreciated Srinath. Go and wach old videos of Srinath's bouncers , Yorkers and other deliveries then probably you will change your opinion. Though Prasad didn't had got pace like Srinath's but he was effective specially in ODIs.

This was the first and best series in 1996. 2 teams at full strength fighting a hard fought best of 5 series that went back and forth. India were originally leading the series 2-1. Pakistan, who at the time were the better team (but the gap was closing) came back to win 2-1. The next 2 series, despite some good cricket were unfair anf outmatched. In 1997 Pakistan, missing several top players with a hapless Ramiz Raja as captain lost 4-1. I remember Ganguly was man of the series and started rising as a player. The 1998 series was 4-1 to Pakistan but despite some good games India had several of their top players missing. Afridi had a good series in his early years.

TBH, if you had 2 of worlds best quicks and 2 of the best Spinners, and add to that Likes of Anwar, Ijaz, Inzi, Malik, etc and still India ended up giving some great matches in all Sahara Cups with 4-1 in 1997. People need to look into that. When pitches were neutral it always gave good games. Pak had the better talent by miles but still they underachieved a great deal in 90s apart from the 92 WC Win

Agreed. Pakistan massively underachieved in the 90, despite some good results and winning some good ODI tournaments (1996 World Series against a still talented West Indies and Australia in Aus, the Australasia cup in 1994 which had 6 teams and several Sharjah trophies. They also won 2 away series against Eng and NZ) however they did underachieve. In 1998 India had it's top players missing in the 4-1 loss (they played in the Commonwealth games)

Tanvir Hussain In 1992 he was captained by the great Imran Khan who was a proud and passionate Pakistani, he had everything including team politics and corruption in check. However after Imran’s retirement in 1992 the wheels came off. The team became ill disciplined in every category while match fixing was at it highest peak from 1994 till 2000. The likes of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe even toured Pakistan and won test series against strong Pakistan sides. Yes the likes of Wasim Akram, Salim Malik and Ijaz Ahmed were all Gamblers. Am I talking without proof? Lol where have you been all these years, even his own former teammates have opened up against him...while Judge Qayyum also fined him for match-fixing! Judge Qayyum later admitted he was a big fan of Wasim and had a “soft corner” or else would have been more tough on him.

Crazy old days, some of us with strict parents who didn't allow cable TV had no idea who won the match until we reached school, only to finally get all the information from lucky friends who had cable connections at home. Sahara Cup was kind of a mythical thing for us because the odd timings made getting match updates really difficult. Newspapers only had first innings info and DD news bulletin was difficult to catch amongst the commotion of getting ready for school. Still golden days those were. ❤️❤️

Venkatesh Prasad played good shots against Saqlain Mushtaq and he took India to 181, smashing 3 big sixes, but finally India fell short of 32 runs... All big guns failed except Rahul Dravid who scored 20 runs off 30 balls. After the match, Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram said that the Pakistan team were bit tensed when Venkatesh Prasad started hitting Saqlain for sixes as Anil Kumble was at the other end and during those days, Karnataka bowlers used to win matches for India scoring crucial runs in the lower order....
