Arsenal were a strong argument for being the best side ever to play in the English top tier back in those days. Although the great Liverpool side from the early 80's and the current Man City side would also have a strong at for that claim.

And the Chelsea team that actually beat them to the title - because they were better than them...
@Coxy_Wrecked10 ай бұрын
@@josephcole8046 "Back in those days" I'm not being specific to a year, just Arsenal at their peak which was certainly in and around this time but perhaps the 4 or 5 years prior to 2004 was their very best. They played the best and most entertaining football in the EPL at the time and had some very talanted players with the likes of talking about that team that had Bergkamp, Henry, Viera, Fabregas ,Overmars, Cole , Petit etc. Yes, Mourinhos Chelsea were a very good side but will never be held in as high regard as Wenger prime Arsenal,Paisleys Liverpool and Peps current Man City side, except by Chelsea fans.
@josephcole804610 ай бұрын
@@Coxy_Wrecked Chelsea and Arsenal are similar in that neither of them have produced teams good enough to be compared with that Liverpool team of the late 70's and 80's, a couple of United teams under Ferguson and the Manchester City team of today. Arsenal didn't retain a single trophy during that period and may as well have not bothered showing up in Europe. Arsenal won 7 trophies in the 8-year period your'e describing. Manchester City have won double that in the last 8 seasons. Manchester United's best 8-year period saw them win 13. Liverpool's best 8-year period saw them win 15. Even Chelsea's best 8-year period saw them win 10. They are thrust into the best teams conversation because they have a big fanbase. But if you look at it objectively, they either massively underachieved, or just weren't as good as they're made out to be.
@Coxy_Wrecked10 ай бұрын
@@josephcole8046 Ok, no doubt that's a fair and reasonable argument against my claim about Arsenal. I would suggest my reasoning for high praise of Wengers Arsenal is the quality of football they played and I do believe the best Arsenal was better than the best of Mourinho's Chelsea and Fergie's Utd. However, I concede actual amount of trophies won was less and also Wenger never won a UCL.
