Match strategy against defensive players,
Often players struggle against a good defender because it's not a common game and they often make you play many balls on the table. Modern-day table tennis is; serves, receive and attack with the aim of winning the point quickly and early. Where a defender will drag out points and look to ware his/her opponent down and force errors with spin variations.
Tip 1
Long pimples many defensive players use long pimples because it allows them to control fast shots and use the spin produced by the opponent against them. Long pimples often are frictionless and spin is rarely produced from them. But there are many different types of long pimples and some can produce spin. Top defensive players generate many variations of spin speed and stroke play to confuse their opponent. The best way to fully grasp how long pimples work, is by playing against them and even using it yourself to have a good base of knowledge. in time you will enable yourself to handle the spins and deception caused by long pimples.
Tip 2
Pushing, it's not a great idea to only push against a defensive player, because this is their strength and more often than not, they will out push you. Therefore look to vary your strokes and mix attacking play with some pushes and bring your opponent in and out and side to side.
Tip 3
go to the crossover when they are away from the table because it's hard for a defender to produce a quality chop from the body. The stroke of a good chop is a long movement and if they are unable to fully execute a full-length stroke, then the quality is automatically reduced.
