Kiraku-sensei, Hello from an 'old' potter in Iwate! Thank you for your generosity in sharing your skills with us. The chawan seems to be the most difficult--or most enjoyable--pottery piece to make. I will keep practicing hard to achieve a "cool" chawan.

Thank you for your comment. In Japanese pottery, many people want to make matcha bowls. There are many points to be concerned about, such as shape and distortion, glaze salt plum, and kiln firing! Let's enjoy pottery together aiming for the best matcha bowl!

@@kiraku-pottery Yes! I've been watching videos of Master Kichizaemon IV and others. I like how many times you said "interesting," and "cool," and "fun". To me, that is what a chawan must be!

@@kiraku-pottery Very good! I hope you will also mention the exact composition of the glazes you are using and maybe even where we can order them. Because the glazes which are available in Europe are not so interesting. I love the archaic Japanese style!

The specific composition of the glaze may be difficult. It is a raw material that can only be obtained in Japan.

Hi Kiraku, thanks for making these videos, they are wonderful and very educational!. The English translation are hilarious though and make it fun to watch. I've been wondering if you ever "raku" fire your pieces, and if so what is your process? I'm interested to see if its different than what's typically done here in the US...

Thank you for your comment. I am very happy to see it. As for English subtitles, I think that it is often incorrect because I use google translation. I'm sorry because I can't speak English myself. What does "RAKU" in your comment mean? I couldn't understand it well with google translation.

@@kiraku-pottery Hi Kiraku… In the US a "Raku" firing... is a process where pots are created with open body clay and typically fired in a portable kiln outside to a temperature around 1800 F, then pulled out of the kiln with long metal tongs and placed in a bin of combustible material like wood chips or newspaper. The bins are then covered to cut off the oxygen. This second stage induces a reduction effect on the glazes and creates the typical crackle effect in the glaze. Hope this translates!

Thank you for your comment. I think the meaning of "RAKU" is the same as in Japan. I usually don't make RAKU, so I don't have enough kiln equipment. I don't think that many Japanese people make "RAKU". I will try if there is a chance.
