This song feels like both hopelessness and relief. Like you've been fighting a war you knew you would never win and it's almost over. You won't win in the end, but let's see how long you can keep going. That when it's over, no matter what happens next, you finally get to breath again.

This comment really struck a chord with me- When I found this song through a fandom, I was in such a terrible mental space. I've only just now come across it again in a much better mental space than before, and seeing this song with your perspective makes it that much more meaningful to me now. Thank you so much
@allysonpeterson76624 жыл бұрын
fightmefairy it can be both. A good story puts the characters through a journey where they question every step, and at some point want to quit. That’s similar to the journey people go through when suicidal. Full disclaimer, I don’t see suicide as “quitting”. At that point in the journey it can seem like the least painful, and in some cases the only, option. It is not taking the easy way out, because if you’re at that point it has not been easy. As for my personal view, this song is about the battle between two sides of something: a positive voice and a negative voice. Everyone has the voices in their heads, real or fictional, which is why this doesn’t have to be one or the other. It’s about every journey. I like to believe in the middle of the song the “we” changes from the person and their mind to the person and society. This represents the change from an internal battle to facing the external battle. There doesn’t have to be a right or wrong answer, let it be whatever it will be. The main fact is that it represents a journey where someone comes out the other end. Whoever that someone is for the listener isn’t for one person to decide. Also, sorry this was long, it was kinda just a thought dump. If you’ve read all the way through thank you!! And I hope I don’t come off rude.
@yugitrump4354 жыл бұрын
You are 100% correct. Ive had nothing but tragedy in my life since I was 14 years old (best friend got shot dead by his abusive father, one brother dying in Afghanistan, another being driven mad, my mom fighting cancer 3 times and succumbing to it on the third time [passed a month and half ago]). Im now 28 and after 4 attempts at suicide Ive realized its not worth dying for those who have shaped and molded me along the way will always be with me as long as I keep going and never giving up. This song is a prime example of how to look back on your life and see how your life has shaped you to become who you are today. All the pain is only temporary in the grand scheme of things. Take the good with the bad and never give up on life my anonymous friends. Never give up hope and find your happiness.

Listening to this song on the first day of school - I know it’s kinda inappropriate, but. After 7 long and treacherous months of suffering and rotting in my bed? I’m so proud of myself. I feel the best I have ever felt _in my life._ To catch you all up to speed I’m disabled with a plethora of different things. It came to a climax at the end of last year, so bad that all I could do was lay in bed. I could barely even get up to shower. (Hell, showers are still hard now.) But? But I’m feeling _better._ This is amazing. I feel so *good!* I’m kinda in the middle of my journey of healing, but hey. It gets better. And I’m using this song to celebrate - celebrate *_how far I’ve come._*

To me this song is about the moment someone finds out that their childhood is over. The simple world that they once knew is burning down. In its place is a harsher reality. Waking up he feels the same, but new responsibilities have appeared on his shoulders; he's heavier than before. He cries and he runs, but he can't run backward or forward. He's stuck in the present reality.

If you think about it, this song is not specifically for a fandom, it is basically a song form of a fandom slowly dying after the show/game/comic/etc. they were a fan of ends.. Let's analyze some of the lyrics! (Or you can just skip to the end of the comment for the TL;DR) *"I'm waking up at the start of the world, but it's feeling just like any other morning before."* The date the last official thing is released. It won't feel even slightly different most of the time, because the "the show ended ;(" comments will be buried by the "omg that was so epic" for a few days/weeks depending on how epic it was. *"Now I wonder what my life is going to mean if it's gone"* A question every fan will face. 'Now what?' *"The cars are moving like a half a mile an hour and I, started staring at the passangers waving goodbye, can you tell me what was ever special about me all this time?"* Some fans think that their fandoms are "different", and they will never die. When the inevitable slow emptying of the forums and dying of youtube channels hit, these will be the most affected. These guys will stick around longer, maybe a year or something, but the emptiness will get too much to bear. *"But I believe the world is burning to the ground, oh well, I guess we're gonna find out / Let's see how far we've come, let's see how far we'll go"* and *"But I believe the world is coming to an end, oh well, I guess, we're gonna pretend"* These are the 'core' fans, the ones that are writers and artists with years of fan content with them, and the ones that will refuse to let go of the fandom. These guys will usually not care about what's going on and will make do with just themselves even after years of nothing. Most of the time, there will also be a lot of "remember how x happened?" and reminiscience about the past. Also a lot of refusal to see the blatant breaking apart of the fandom will also occur. *"Say your goodbyes if you've got someone you can say goodbye to"* Most of the fandom-based friendships tend to crumble after the fandom ends. *"It's gone, gone, baby it's all gone, There's no one on the corner and there's no one at home / It was cool, cool, it was just all cool, now it's over for me, and it's over for you"* The last of the fandom. The last few lurking the forums after years. The last fanfiction writers, animators and artists. The last "loyalest of the loyal" fans. Eventually, these guys will have to leave, either due to real life or losing motivation, and then... That's it. A lost chorus sung by the last people left, and that's it. It's over. Maybe a barely active forum or two, or perhaps the old fanfictions left on the internet, and the official content lurking around there somewhere. Maybe a few memorial sites for the fandom. But that. Is It. Cue the last note slowly drifitng off.

DO YOU KNOW HOW SAD YOU JUST MADE ME???? I think I'll be one of those fans who will stick aroud for years, but also I'm looking ahead for the epilouge of Homestuck, as well as some kind of sequel for Gravity falls. These two fandoms made a too big part of me, I think (I hope) I'll at least remember those! and I'm honestly afraid of the fact that one day, even the greatest fans of Homestuck will just stop making fanart and maybe even stop liking it.... I'm glad that there are new people coming into the fandom even now that the comic ended, but I'm afraid they won't care for it as muh as the other fans do who were around for all the seven years. I joined at the beginning of the year, being happy about the last update being released at 4/13, but I didn't know that this was really the last update!I hope that there will be an epilouge, and maybe even Hivebent will come out in the next few months/years, and I'm not leaving this fandom until this happened! I'm even planning to make my first tattoo Homestuck related, and soon I'll work on my own version of Homestuck together with my best friend. we have fun creating and building these characters, working with them and shape them like we want. even after the few months i'm in the Homestuck fandom, all of the characters became my precious gay little babys and I'll at least rememeber all the feelings I went through until I'm the best grandma of the fucking world!
@paradoxicaloutcome10077 жыл бұрын
EriVaWolfFang Trust me, I probably know how sad you feel. Think about how it felt when I first thought of this. I actually teared up when thinking about it before deciding to write this comment. I joined the Homestuck fandom pretty late too. Actually learned about it from Undertale, and quickly read it all. Now half of my music file is homestuck music (And the other half is Undertale and a couple other misc. game ost) and I can honestly say that I'm a fan. (Understuck best AU) But you know what? I don't think the Homestuck fandom will die for a LONG time. Because, as I said, a fandom starts it's dying when official content is over. But the official content is not over yet for Homestuck. There's still the epilogue that will come (Eventually), there's still Hivebent. There's also some talk about a official Homestuck 2.0, but even they don't really know what it's going to be. So don't worry, Homestuck's not going away anytime soon! Also... The end is only the beginning, when the Homestuck fandom ends, an ~ATH file in a space station from outer space will activate and bring SBURB to real life, where all Homestuck fans that stuck around that far will receive a copy, thus a chance to escape the meteor ridden world and play SBURB for themselves! Or maybe not. ... If VR technology makes any grand leaps in 30 years to be able to make someone feel like they're moving around and talking for real without running around like an idiot, and sure, that kind of technology would have to mess with your brain a little and could be really bad in the wrong hands. Or clumsy hands in general, But screw the dangers, I want a SBURB game!
@t3rrortoff337 жыл бұрын
you know what would be really amazing? having like a virtual reality game that basicly IS SBURB! there are so many new technologies with which you actully can "walk around" and maybe you'll be even able to feel what's around you in some years! I think it would be amazing playing on SBURB servers without ending the world I guess XD but the thing with the real SBURB, could be possible! my dad told be about that a meteor is passing the eart in about ten years (meh but only passing though(I hope)) and I would honestly panic and fangirl at the same time if I'd get like a copy of SBURB! But I don't think that the fandom will die... It'll go god tier! maybe there will be a time the Homestucks aren't seen on conventions (well I went to school in a Homestuck cosplay so...) but then when the Epilouge, hivebent and maybe even other stuff happens we didn't even hear about yet, I'm sure the fandom will be bigger and greater thatn ever before! It'll explode in cosplay and fanart, I'm sure! but I'm still worried that all of that might not even happen... and that maybe at the end there will only be a small pile of fans that try to keep Homestuck up....
@paradoxicaloutcome10077 жыл бұрын
EriVaWolfFang I'm pretty sure the technology to make a VR SBURB is entirely possible too, but the thing is; we also have to develop it (Altough, seeing as when Hivebent is released, Hussie and Toby Fox both will have a game that they made, they could certainly try to get the funding for it!), and for that to happen, we'll need the fandom God-tiered and ready. It'll be Homestuck's quest complete! And yeah, if SBURB (With the world-ending meteors and all) happened in real life, It would be both terrifying, excting, and all around glorious event! I mean, imagine the shenenigans you see in the comic experienced by yourself, in real life! Though, on the flip side, I'd have to lose some weight and practice my pistol play pretty seriously to stand any chance aganist anything but the weakest enemies. Also there's the world ending. That's also pretty bad, I guess. On a completely unrelated note (Totally not looking for a team in case SBURB actually happens), what do you think would be your Godtier if you were to play SBURB? About your worries; Don't worry. If you spend the entire wait worrying about how it might not happen, you'll end up lenghtening the wait for yourself.
@t3rrortoff337 жыл бұрын
I'm actully not sure XD From my personality I might be a Knight of breath, a sylph of heart, a paige of rage (even though that's male exclusive) or mage of space. but I think the most fitting one would be the mage of space, I just feel like that :I but to be honest, I'd have to loose a lot of weight too, and I'd need to know how to fight at all! I live in germany, and I hardly know how the use a wooden plate as a weapon, I think I'd accedently kill myself with a gun! but I think when it get's tough you just know from your instincts how to fight? you also have a sprite that leads you through the ame so that might not even be the bigest problen, and you can make such awsome weapons that it might be easier to fight with them! but loosing my family and other people that are close to me is a very terrefying imagination... even thogh my clostsest friend would get a copy, if really every Homestuck fan would get one. I'd also have to get up a team, though I'd have at least one who could have my back, but even though she's my closest friend, if there's a hope for her to survife, she'd stab me in the back, but mostly because she is too bashful and dosen't overthink ther actions enough. I'd probably die before getting into the medium because I take too much time on overtingking evertihng. I'd get killed while figuring out a strife specibus! It#s a really hard topic to think of, because it would be amazing plying SBURB and all but there are so many bad things coming along with this!
