That Kevin won the race is not surprising, as he gets a lot more practice driving at high speeds with all the police chases he's involved in, and he also has a 100+ pound weight advantage on you. Maybe he'll give you a rematch when you redo the car. I think Phil Hill would be proud of Kevin's great skills behind the wheel driving his Championship car.

Super gluing the wires will not work because the super glue wicks between the wires out to the ends and glues all the wires together. Here is an idea for you. When using the a wire wheel/cup to clean up a casting. Get a large storage bin/tub of clear plastic or cut a viewing window in it and cover with plexiglass, cut access holes for your hands and tool cords etc kinda like a sanding booth and polish the casting under that bin/tub so the wires are trapped under it when they come off, get a neodymium magnet to collect up the loose ones. That little casting came out amazing Kevin is a little stinker greasing up the track like that. Thanks for sharing Mike from Texas

Can I just say something to Marty? The reason why I'm hardly ever interested in watching you; restore these old Matchbox toy cars is that, I took up interest into getting into the business of selling plastic models, of all shapes and sizes. That's in the very way, how I want to run a hobby store. It would be pretty radical also, if you would create paint that changes color.

Another excellent restoration! As a fellow modeler I appreciate your attention to detail and the ever clean work space. Too bad on the decals. It was difficult to see the problems when the car was displayed on the carousel but was much more visible in the "race" close ups. One suggestion, white primers brightens up the paint of bright and vibrant colors, due to the fact the paints are really translucent. I suggest that you repaint the red on both cars and undercoat / prime only one with the white. I think you'll see it makes a big difference. This is a technique I was taught in design school. Thanks again. JFK, in Cincinnati, Ohio USA

Oh Kevin....Cheaters never prosper. Love the extras at the end. I’ve had problems with enamel paint not curing on metal bars for a piece of a costume I made. That part rested on my shoulders and I had the uncured, sticky paint pulling and rubbing at my skin all weekend. It was not fun and I ended up removing all of the paint and covering the whole thing in vinyl.

Kudos for the camera crews' work out at the racetrack - quite exciting up close action! There is a saying in America, don't know if you have it in your neck of the wood's - "Payback is a b----." I have a feeling that Kevin should keep his helmet handy if he knows what's good for him. At the very least, he should be on short rations with the eucalyptus leaves for a while! Did like your idea of using the heat-shrink tubing as a depth stop. Carry on, mate!

Loved the ending on this one 😎👍 Funnily enough I’ve just restored this exact model as well, just need a driver n decals to finish it off, I had a couple of happy accidents that you might be interested in, my small hand chuck handle broke but I found it then fitted in my electric screwdriver and that is spot on for drilling out posts with much more control! Also I had a button nose seize with a micron to go, went to drill out then when flange was nearly gone I realised I could just hit it with a tiny socket and it now totally looks like the original rivet!

Glad you raced a F1 car in anger in Australia this year. Perhaps as homage to World Champ Lewis Hamilton you repaint as a Mercedes Silver Arrow number 44. Then have a rematch with naughty Kev in his Ferrari and you beat him fair and square. I’m a huge fan, going live on KZbin soon. I will send you a Dinky kit to paint in your old squadron colors. Kevin is a dangerous little bugger. The Ferrari looked great, you can see the decal is ripped inn the race close up, pity that after all your hard work, well done.
@dansmodelrailways78864 жыл бұрын
A good restoration marty, one word about decals. Once applied and the water has dried, try coating the model with satin varnish. This helps seal the decals to the model. Don’t rely on the adhesive of the decal alone it’s simply not strong enough, and you could find that over time they’ll peel off.
@scalefinishes4 жыл бұрын
love the restoration, those old Ferrari F1 cars are wild. With the enamels, lighter coats with longer drying times between coats works best. It should take 4 or so light coats to cover and give you a nice sheen.
