Great looking custom! Great job on the wheel swap and color of the body. Really nice result! Out of curiosity, with how much pressure are you airbrushing the model? 2:1 ratio thinner/paint or the other way around? Still experimenting with the airbrushing here 😇
@MatchboxGarage5 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. I run at around 20psi. 2 parts paint 1 part thinner although sometimes require 50/50 mix. I too am learning something new with every resto/custom

My mother had a '68 Beetle. It was the first car I ever drove. Gloss black with a, I think, red interior. Very uncomfortable in winter as it had no heater. The only warmth was drawn from the air cooled engine and in a Canadian winter that wasn't very much. My job used to be to keep the windshield scraped as she drove it on very cold days. She traded it on a new Yellow Toyota Corolla that rusted out and fell apart in less than a year. Ah the good old days.

Here's a tip for you mate,try using a 6B drawing pencil (rounded not sharp but not too blunt) to pick out the number plate letters, depending on how defined the lettering is you could also use a bit of copydex paper, (the black carbon sheet you find in a receipt book for a copy ) double sided to a little piece of card press and apply to the letters, be sure to use a magnifier so you can see what you are doing thow ! great job again btw 👍👍

Hello Rob, I shall be a new subscriber after I post this comment. My main hobby is Film Camera Collecting and Restoring as best I can. I enjoy watching these "Matchbox" and "Hot Wheels" restorations because the small size of the work and various techniques you fellows use is very helpful in my Camera hobby. Which I have been doing for over 50 years now. I don't do restoration on these small model cars but from time to time I'll point out anything I hope you can find useful. This is the first video I've seen and the only comment I can make is generally headlights are painted silver or chrome. Even in the early days of "Sealed Beam" headlights and the modern high intensity lamps in a plastic housings the reflective material always make a headlight look silver. I think this VW will look a little better if you hit the headlights with a chrome pen. I'll slowly watch the rest of your videos and wish you luck. Tom U.S.A.

the name of that particular green is a trade-made name called Celadon. look into Cone 6 pottery glazes and you'll see -wouldn't know this if not a FA major who had to take some sculpture/pottery classes.

Very nice colour choice, Rob. Here are some interesting notes about the Volkswagen Beetle for you and your audience... The concept and functional objectives of the Beetle were formulated in Spring 1934 by Adolf Hitler himself, who wanted a cheap, simple car to be mass-produced for his country's new road network (built under his leadership). Lead engineer, Ferdinand Porsche (the guy), and his team took until 1938 to finalise the design, which was to incorporate a split rear window arrangement, unlike the Matchbox model in this video. Hitler, an artist, didn't particularly care for some of the body lines of that design, and felt compelled to modify them personally, and I'm glad he did because Porsche's version was a little crude by comparison (I've seen it). In all, 21,529,464 million Beetles were produced world-wide from 1938 to 2003, making the loveable bug one of the top five best sellers of all time. (I personally prefer the body style of the original to the current model.)

Like this one, always had a soft spot for the original beetle wanted one until I actually had a ride in it. Didn't like the previous modern shape, the cab was out of proportion with the rest of the body. The latest one with the slightly 'chopped' roof look is great sporty looking. Nice peppermint green and the bigger wheels look much better. I see your nearing the 10K subs mark, well done for that. I must pull my finger out and get posting some of my conversions.
