Matchbox Voltron Defender of the Universe Lion Force VS Vehicle Team!

I remember Xmas 1985 when I saw Voltron under the tree, I was so excited!! That was my favorite childhood Christmas. I 'm hoping 1 day I could repurchase both the matchbox lion & vehicle versions. I've got a diecast Trendmasters version of the Lion Voltron that came out in 1997, & a recolored cheap knock off replica of the Car Voltron which we referred to him as in my day, named LSA Combo which don't compare to the authentics.

I got mine on Christmas in 1985. Loved. I remember the switch you had to slide to extent the connectors for legs was tight. I had to use a butter knife to slide it. I ware that thing out. It was not well built like the Lion Voltron was.

@chadryan9900 I have that same issue w/the LSA Combo knock off unit as well. That came w/the sword, so I used it to help me move that same switch.

Hey, cool video of these but you’ve got the 1st and 2nd USA release on both mixed up. The very first editions were the Voltron I, II, and III deluxe box sets WITHOUT the book cover opening and cellophane window. By late 85 into 86 Matchbox nixed Voltron II (Albegas) and released Voltron 1 (Vehicle) and III (Lion Force) without the I and III designation in just a Voltron branded box. This can be seen by comparing the Matchbox 1985 Toy Fair catalog and the 1986 Toy Fair catalog. Either way, they are cool pieces. Just want to clarify that. One final point, on the recalled lead paint versions, I’m not sure they were sold in the new style box that you have there. They would have a sticker on the bottom left corner of the box (yellow) that would say made in Taiwan. Could be wrong on that though.

Nice video. The black lion at least is a bootleg Lionbot. It has black thighs and grey hinges on wings. Matchbox has chrome thighs and white hinges. The chrome also goes around back of black lion on matchbox.

Looks like you have a Taiwan Lionbot in a Matchbox Voltron box. Not sure if all parts are from Lionbot, but black lion and blue lion appear to be. For black lion it's the grey wing connectors and no chrome on black lion upper legs. Blue lion has same body as Yellow lion and red part sticks up on back higher because of it. Do lions have stickers on them?

Yeah but these two sets I sold and rebought sealed ones. I realized there was a mix match after really learning more about all the different versions of Voltron. Just in time you released this video, and I know I don't say it often but, thanks for what you do, I really love it an appreciated, this video just lifted my spirits 😊 Funny story about Voltron, that's the toy I always wanted but didn't have...well, not entirely true, I got one of those cheap knockoff plastic green lion and I had the five inch Matchbox vehicle Voltron but didn't transform 😶 When they released the 25th anniversary Toynami version I immediately jumped at it...but haven't opened it, I had it like ten years now and I don't dare open it 😕 Great video dude! The red plane wiggle back and forth. The directions always said press on the fins but when you do the wing breaks. You have an awesome collection. Congrats, but keep kids away my sons left mine alone Then suddenly was the death of almost all my originals. :(

Thank you for sharing the video. My favorite toys frowing up. I gotnone in 1983 from a Japanese store in Queens, butbit was called Go-Lion. Same thing, but i think it was before the Voltron cartoon was translated into english. Back then i had to do a TON of extra chores and snow shovelling because it was $110 (80s money). Also, is that a Powermaster Ootimus Prime on the right side of your display?

Yeah, they did, it was from Panosh Place. It wasn't die cast, but they made it so that the pilots can go in the lions.
