Brian is so gracious and humble, one of the best contestants ever. he is one of the few to kiss another contestant on the cheek, applaud when he lost; and talk about sharing his winnings with his mother. Clearly, she raised a very good son. Wondering where he is today? If he was a senior at Cal State Tech then, he was probably born in 1952 , which would make him around 70 years old. Anyone have any updates on Brian?

@@mittens4kittens435Watch closer at 3:48. Brian is shaking hands with Jack and Brett and Bill in the top row when Richard Dawson stands up behind him and pretends to pickpocket the contestant, who had just added $5500 to the 1100 or more he had already won. Gene was telling Brian about what went on behind his back during the celebration. It wasn't about Brian at all, just a joke Richard made about stealing some money from the big winner ($6000 in 1973 would have been worth approximately 40,000 in 2023, so it was quite a lot of dough). Gene: He picked your pocket while you were up there (points at Richard) Dickie: Well I figure you can afford it now. 🥸

Hold up-ugly is the same as "plain"? ? ? The matches shouldn't be so subjective that a "judge" can just decide who wins based on what they want versus what the actual definition is. That's messed up-dude got robbed.

Ira's " judging " became a big problem with the show
@soulfourger6 жыл бұрын
plain (adj.): 3. (of a person) not beautiful or attractive He didn't get robbed at all. It's the 70s. Look how Jack said homely. Word use was different and every-day definitions changes over time.
@LynxSouth5 жыл бұрын
@@soulfourger "Homely" has long been a synonym for "ugly" in American English. "Plain", on the other hand, does not mean ugly now and did not mean ugly in 1973 -- it describes that middling area that is not beautiful, not attractive, but not ugly either. Jason Kaiser is right and the judge messed up on that one, even if it didn't make any difference in the end.
@soulfourger5 жыл бұрын
Lynx South Context matters. A “plain Jane”, is an unattractive woman. “Homely” is an unattractive person. “Ugly” is a repulsively unattractive person. Any answer synonymous with unattractiveness is considered a match. “Homely” can /also/ mean ‘simple but cosy and comfortable’. “Plain” can /also/ mean simple or basic. But again, context.
@LynxSouth5 жыл бұрын
@@soulfourger Even though you say context matters, you're stuck in binary thinking. Evidently that's all the judge could manage, too.
