Now he's appeared on camera I can talk about the lesser-spotted Johnny Olson. Match Game just wouldn't have been the same without his hi-octane voiceover at the start of each episode introducing each panelist. Johnny was also the warm-up man before recordings and in-between takes on this and the other Goodson-Todman show on CBS, The Price is Right (though he appeared on camera more on that show than he did on Match Game). His ability to whip up the audience in the studio and at home created an energy that this show deserved. Olson's voice graced much of the Goodson-Todman game show spectrum - not only on Match Game and The Price is Right, but also on Concentration, Now You See It, Tattle Tales, Body Language and Double Dare among others. His passing in 1985 at the age of 75 was genuinely mourned in the game show community at the time.

I read somewhere that it was attributed to him flying across the country from his farm in Virginia to California on a weekly basis. That, coupled with his age, might have contributed to his death.

I'm glad he's getting acknowledgement, a lot of the time, the behind the scenes people get forgotten.

@@sarahkinsey5434 In my opinion Johnny Olson really was really not behind the scenes, he was an integral part of the show probably similar to Ed McMahon. Of all the game show announcers, he was the best in the business. I can think of several phrases that just became part of Americana due to his delivery. Obviously, "come on down" being the most famous. However, there were others like" from television City in Hollywood," or just the way he can put emphasis on " it's a new car" anybody alive today who watched TV in the 60s 70s and 80s may not know the name but they know the voice.

Some of the banter between her and the other guy that replaces Nipsy is funny sometimes but its like she thinks she carrys the show or something and has to speak during before and after EVeRY answer!! Also if her non humor is t bad enough we have to hear about Jack Klugman every answer as well?? I know we all know him from even this very show but what about everyone elses wives and husbands is Brett the only one who can relate to every answer with well my husband Jack Klugman..... !!!!! Seriously thanks even if its just us two... Brett needed to just stop and let the host and others speak for a second!!! She speaks more than Gene!!
