Ughh this was always a hard watch. I’d rather watch Richard’s final CBS episode. Also Brett technically should have been asked to give another answer. Thanks a million doesn’t fit with Thanks for_____. I think they just winged it at this point and didn’t care. Also 17:49 Richard’s last genuine smile.

True, but the good news is we know there will be another few good years of him on FF to watch and enjoy. Watched about 10 episodes with the wheel now and while it's nice to see people win with other celebrities, they don't add the same humor and wit Richard did. It also seems to me they made the wheel slow down drastically on certain names now after it landed on Richard quite a lot the first week of its debut.

Charles and Brett, bless them, were the most consistently entertaining ones throughout the run of the show. Dawson turned moody and moved on, Rayburn got desperate (especially the way he fawned over MacLean after he became a regular) but Charles and Brett just played on like the musicians on the Titanic.
@proud_brettsomersfanclub86872 жыл бұрын
THANK YOU!! FINALLY someone else who gets it and understands. This is how I see it too. Brett and Charles were and are the heart and soul of Match Game. Brett and Charles stayed LOYAL until the end. Everyone LOVED Brett and Charles and no one said a bad word about them. Everyone hated Dickie Dawson even Gene Rayburn's daughter didn't get the fuss over Dickie. I'm so glad he left what a big ego. Can't stand him.

You know, I think that the downfall of MG, whether daytime or PM, started when they began heavily editing the show, especially the banter between the panelists and Gene as they were writing their answers. That used to be some of the best parts of the show. It is almost non-existent on the PM version. The second was the introduction of the Star Wheel. That just added an element of luck that didn't need to be there. Some panelists were very consistent in matching contestants, so being able to pick who you wanted was a help. The last was when Richard left. The best panelist by far. MG was never the same, and it showed in the ratings, which tanked, while Richard's Family Feud stayed at the top for years. I will keep watching MG, but it won't be the same.

@Echognomics101 Жыл бұрын
She was trying to make a joke about old car parts being "junk" food. I get the pun she was going for, but it really wasn't all that funny. She's trying way too hard. Joyce had some good one-liners on here, but this was just weird and disjointed. Not sure how she heard "junk food" and started thinking "how can I make it about a junkyard?" And how would one even eat a carburetor at Communion? Would a Catholic priest place the carburator directly on your tongue? And Jesus surely did not lift up and break an old car part at the Last Supper to feed it to his friends.

His back didn't seem too bad when he spun that wheel almost off the stage too. Anyway, your tax dollars at work. Can't believe they didn't mention anytime during the show, not even at the end, that this was Richard's last appearance on Match Game PM. Tells you what they thought of him I guess.

I'm gonna compose a poem about Richard Dawson in the style of those "In Memoriam" poems written by an unknown (since 2010) author under the alias "E.J. Thribb (17½)" for British satirical magazine Private Eye... "So, Farewell Then Richard Dawson, Match Game magnet. You started out As one of Hogan's Heroes Then you went on to be a Star Match. Then came Family Feud. And finally you Were The Star. Which meant This game No longer matched With your ego." -E.J. Thribb ($17,500 won)

So, as one era ends, another chapter of the show begins, as the bottom center seat will be getting frequent rotations until McLean Stevenson or Bill Daily takes that permanent spot, and it'll still be some time before the Wheel lands on the celebrity sitting on the bottom center seat again, but it still wouldn't be as frequent. As Richard finally exits, there has not been a single undefeated champion at this point.
@crissrudd45545 жыл бұрын
Yep. Sadly the show never had one undefeated champ in the pre-Wheel era. The closest I believe was Carol Bartos in 1975.

The show wasn’t canceled til the following year. It was already gradually declining by this point anyways after the show’s time slot was moved the previous year. Also as big a Dawson fan as I am Match Game would never had been Match Game without Gene Rayburn! Gene is the heart and soul of this show regardless of who is on the panel!
@WPPCProductions5 жыл бұрын
Disagree with Rayburn.The show would flop or struggle without him .Also I give Brett and Charles credit too for hanging on.
@WPPCProductions5 жыл бұрын
Agree .Gene was Match Game as Richard was Family Feud and Bob Barker was The Price is Right,Alex Trebek is Jeopardy,Pat Sajak is Wheel of Fortune. and Monty Hall was Lets Make a Deal.I can go on more but I'll keep it simple. But I still watch the other hosted game shows on the tele or here on KZbin as some get boring.. Gene was very entertaining ,Funny and kept the show moving even there is technical production problems and other issues that happen as the tape rolls on as the show is getting recorded. After Richard left .CBS probably lost some more viewers which added to the decline of its ratings. Probably what killed the PM show is other syndicated shows at the time.
