H/H match update: ... We've made it to week 117 of our favorite classic game show (these episodes originally aired in early November 1975), and our stalwart regulars Richard, Brett, and Charles are joined by semi-regular Patti in the sixth seat for the second week in a row. Brief recap of Patti's MG career: She appeared for a total of 42 weeks (putting her #7 on the list of most-frequent MG celebs). Her debut was in episode 81 way back in 1973, and her final week will be shows 1436-1440 in 1979. So far, she's 1 for 2 in the H/H match. Note: It's rare for a semi-regular to be booked for two consecutive weeks. Fannie has done it twice, and now Patti. Orson Bean is back for his tenth week (out of 16 total). He's only played the H/H match 4 times, but he's matched all 4! Check him out at the top of the leader board! And Mary Ann Mobley is back (with her elegant penmanship) for the first time since episode 440. This is her sixth week of ten total (always in the #4 seat). Like Orson, she has been chosen to play the head-to-head match 4 times, but has yet to score her first win. (That might sound bad, but keep in mind that Richard didn't match until his *ninth* try!) And now, let's sit back, enjoy, and see which celebs get a shot at the head-to-head match this week! (I'm rooting for Orson, Mary Ann, and Patti, but chances are it'll be all Richard again.) And we start today's show right off with the H/H match earned yesterday by our returning champion who chooses the same celebrity she always chooses. And she's had good luck with Richard, so who can blame her? Today's question: "Somewhere ______ " This contestant has been getting fairly easy head-to-head matches. Is there another good answer? She looked puzzled when Gene first read the question. When the camera cut to Richard, he was already writing, and his answer seemed to be rather long. The contestant's puzzlement passed quickly enough and she confidently answered Somewhere over the Rainbow. ... and Richard scores his 128th H/H match. Quick recap: Richard has been on a hot streak lately. He's been chosen the last 6 times in a row, and 10 of the last 12 times. He's matched 6 of those ten. The other two most recent attempts were by Brett and Sheldon Leonard, both missing. Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Fannie - 52.6% (10 wins in 19 attempts). Betty - 46.9% (15 wins in 32 attempts). Charles - 45.2% (19 wins in 42 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 39.9% (128 wins in 321 attempts). Brett - 38.0% (19 wins in 50 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 581, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

Thank you for posting these! As you can see from Richard Dawson's thought process, he is always thinking of what the contestant is most likely to say. Unlike some who will remain Patti Deutsch, who always tries to be way too witty, and thus hardly ever matches. That's why Richard was chosen to host FAMILY FEUD.

@@sdlively27 However, those were more the exception than the norm. Her outlandish attempts to parlay bizarre responses into being a household name or a pioneering figure for comediennes didn't work. OK not to be all negative but...I've seen just about enough of Lauren Huntley. First she beats a man who is out of work almost 2 years with a question that's read in such a way to make the answer obvious, then she gets "Somewhere over the rainbow"....uggh.

Yes, you're right, he did have another job. But he needed the money, I felt bad for him. And I don't think I ever before heard Gene read it as "blanks," plural, and not "blank." So of course everyone said boobs. Meanwhile, we are getting all upset over something that happened 43 years ago, lol.

@ThomasKDye6 жыл бұрын
Episode 556. The question for the other contestant was "My contact lenses will never fall out. I *blanked* them to my eyes." When Gene re-read the question to the other contestant, he accidentally said "glanked." You can even hear the audience react as he does that. Instead of throwing out the question, the contestant said "glued," and then they went on with the game. On top of that, they matched "glued" with "cemented," causing her to win the game. Kind of a compound bobble there; bringing Don back was the only fair thing to do.
