There are/were videos of some of the commercials from 1976 and 1977 here on YT, but I think they began in 1975. He had already done paper-eating in comedy skits for a couple of years, though.

Oh, I was so nervous! Please oh please don't say "World Trade Center!" And they didn't (and how could they have known?), but a WWII bomber did crash into the Empire State Building during the war, resulting in several fatalities. Nobody said "in the Hudson," either, but everybody survived that one.
