@@Nezumi-- Regarding Hokusai with Debussy, you may want to read more on Debussy and his fascination with East Asian and South East Asian music. Stylistically La Mer may sound like an odd pairing to Hokusai, but I also understand where Eddy coming from when he chose La Mer (Debussy) for Hokusai.

I’d love to hear you do this the other way around- match an artwork to a piece of music. I was listening to Poulenc sonata for piano and clarinet a few weeks ago, and wondering what art was being made at that time, what he would have been looking at.
@SculptyWorks
@SculptyWorks 3 жыл бұрын
Poulenc was from the early 1900's, so besides the classics, he'd certainly have been familiar with the works of Monet and Picasso. I think his works are very melodic, a bit too refined for the more daring art styles coming out at that time, but also rather grounded in reality, so maybe something from John Sloan would go well with Poulenc's music in general. 😊
@susanbryant6516
@susanbryant6516 3 жыл бұрын
Just did some googlating, and was surprised to find the pice I was thinking of was written in 1962, at the end of his life... and the John Sloans look a little too old fashioned for it... but the Poulenc doesn’t sound very 1960’s to me... I need to do some research on this!

I actually agree with TwoSet that La Mer fits. Specifically that part. It definitely has the nuances of waves crashing. Plus, Debussy actually used that artwork as the cover for La Mer, which is why they went for it so quickly. I think Ride of the Valkyries has so much symbolism already attached to it. It definitely doesn't give me stormy vibes. More like an army charging.

It is so beautiful because both works of art were created to depict the same awe inspiring moment. Bach's mass was written as liturgical music to be sung during the sacrifice of Christ through the sacrament of the Eucharist as instituted during the last supper. It's not a coincidence.

Multiple layers of enjoyment! I recall delighting in TwoSet’s classical music interpretation of fine art. In this video, SculptyWorks has heightened that initial experience with a perfectly angled chisel here and a beautiful, unexpected glaze there. interesting. whenever i see starry night i feel overwhlemed. i mean the whirls in the center of the sky, radiating as if they are interacting to make a storm of stars, and the whole sky filled in the canvas, the moon shine aloft all above the world, while the tiny little houses at the very bottom... i feel it is a very majestic piece, dynamic and powerful with harmony . the stars of the universe were telling giant secrets to the artist when he was painting it. he saw the great stars, and suddenly the things of the world seemed so small compared to this great stars of universe...

This was a great vid, loved hearing your take. Ps. Next time try and cut the vid you are reacting to and maybe talk more cause I wanted to hear you speak about the artworks and the pairing in detail. Anyway it was cool!

Thank you! I tried to balance how much of their content and how much of my content was going to make it into the video. It's a bit of a juggling act! 😉

Really? I hated it, tried to get rid of it for a 'cleaner' view, and I thought it was gone, but the final render still had it! 😉

My favorite piece in the whole world is Toccata and Fugue. It's the most challenging piece I've ever learned to play --- and I still had the exact same reaction as you when they changed from 4'33"! 4'33" was the brilliant choice for The Thinker. I think Eddy in particular isn't a huge fan of conceptual music - so he didn't embrace it. Too bad.

I was recommended to this video after watching the two set “match music to the painting”, it is super interesting to watch it from the other “side” and how and why your picks are different. Love it ! 😄 P.s I seriously thought you forgot to play that last song for the “the kiss” and was bummed out 😂. Great video !

I'm a twoset fan And I liked both views as I'm still making my choice between music and art to choose as career In my opinion, everyone has a way to look at every art whether music or art so no debates please

Someone could try this idea: When trying to convert painting genre to a music genre or a music genre to a painting genre something like this could be made. When converting painting genre to music one: 1-Get a painting genre and list down all its characteristics. 2-Convert those characteristics to musical/sound ones using music thoery skills, painting theory skills and logic skills. 3-Create some music with ALL the characteristics from step 2. Some music listeners forum tried that idea with colorfield painting genre and came with the genre tonefield In the end the sub-genre works basically like this: 1-Song is mono, if its some format (like cd) that don't support true mono, both channels have the exact same thing. 2- The song start with a silent part with 1 second (or more) or with a tonewith 1 second or more (tone must have same waveform, frequency and amplitude during its entire length) 3-Song ends here OR continue with with a new silent part with 1 second (or more) or with new a tone a tone with 1 second or more (tone must have same waveform, frequency and amplitude during its entire length) 4-Go back to 3. The problem is that people at the forum were not musicians so most of the songs of that genre sucks. This label catalog the stuff they made: wavelength2.bandcamp.com/

Maybe in the future pick some pieces of music you haven't heard and pick art that goes with it. I definitely agree with the silence for the thinker
