Great video sir. If I can add some value, to many Magneto systems are witchcraft, smoke and mirrors. OK, usually a larger points gap gives more issues on these. People go slightly over gap to allow for heel wear when fitting new points....results in a no start OE very weak spark indeed. Lovely old buses though G3Ls Always worth cleaning all earth's and connectors every few months.

Nice work Terry. Educational and entertaining. Just one small query from this nit-picker. Lucas fitted a backing plate to the contact-breaker spring, placed between the CB spring and the washer and retaining screw. Its curve is outwards to avoid a stress-point where the spring bends and lessen the possibility of fracture. I didn't see this in your video.

You’re quite right Jonathan - I noticed the backing plate in the manual but unfortunately mine wasn’t fitted with one. She doesn’t seem any the worse for it but I’ll see if I can acquire one before the spring fractures

A very nice bike and a useful video Terry. The only comment I would make is to use the brake cleaner before you oil everything to save washing the lubrication away.

Are the sets of points on ebay ,indian made I think ,any good ? .NOS better I expect .

I ordered a contact breaker point set from ‘green wholesale experts’ in India in August but they still haven’t arrived. I’ll buy NOS in the UK in future

Thank you for this video. I have been having issues starting my G3L. Must check the gap now! Mine is a 47 civvy model with a slash cut silencer. I cannot believe the difference in engine note. Thanks again.
