"Just when he was closing in on a great victory, an easy ball eludes him," might just sum up Jimmy's career. But part of what made him so compelling was that he could pot anything BUT he could also miss anything. Maybe if he'd won one of this World Championship finals, he'd have drifted off the tour and into comfy obscurity? As it is he seems to have maintained a genuine outsider status.

Yeah, but can he weld? We are all judged to our profession. I was lucky enough to play Jimmy twice in Rileys exhibition events in London years ago. He didn't miss a thing. The frustration is that the pressure crushes him when we all want to see him succeed. A frustration that we the fans share with him. So he may be judged harshly, however, he is a professional and as such is judged according to that status.

I loved watching Jimmy but he was so frustrating at times.. too much of the chancer hit and hope at the most crucial of times in matches, he has thrown so many away that he could of won if he just made the right shot choice. I think thats whats hold him back in the past by lifting the world trophy, and I feel he could of lifted it at least twice during his career if he had been more careful. He gets nervous and seems to lose his cool when his opponent steps up a gear. Brilliant player to watch though. Him and alex higgins were amazing in the 80s haha.

Jimmy really needed a sports psychologist early on in his career. The only difference between the two is temperament. Ronny is solid mentally. Jimmy is very fragile. I remember seeing Jimmy lose to Hendry in the crucible final giving up a 6 frame lead. Jimmy's raw talent is unquestionable. Arguably better than Ronnie when it comes to cue control just lacks that killer mentality something Hendry had in abundance. The difference between the elites is not skill but mental strength focus and concentration. Somethings Jimmy wasn't consistent at.

he may have pulled off all the best shots in history but his consistency is atrocious even in his prime he would loose position far too often and miss too many easy shots something that Ronnie never did after the 90s. Always amazed by how low jimmy cued on the cue ball his entire career So little margin for error Fantastic player Legend But man he chipped the ass of a cue ball
@sam_the_man Жыл бұрын
I noticed that too. But I also noticed he cued that low on the ball for pretty much every shot he hit below centre - feathering low enough to touch the table and then adjusting his cue height at the very last millisecond of his striking stroke just before the tip actually makes contact with the ball. It’s a heck of a lot of unnecessary movement on the cue as he’s striking which could be a reason why he randomly misses what professionals would consider to be easy pots every now and then? Makes you wonder.
