I am very happy that these tournaments allow the players to get paid, but I am skeptical about the fact that all pool tournaments are ending up as a Matchroom property and marketing seems to be the most important thing, even more important than the game itself. I read somewhere that she is proposing a golden buzzer shot or sth like that for pool and thank God her team and her superiors shut that shit down. The fact that she and the people who set up these tournaments dont play themselves, means to me that is just a business, which is run very well so far, but the game as a game is not something they really focus on. I think it's used more like a product they want to sell, which is of course a part of organizing tournaments, but it should never be the only goal in my opinion.
@chrisyounce1815 Жыл бұрын
@@GLMusic12 I understand your skepticism. I would suggest you to watch any one of the interviews Emily has done and you will be very impressed with her passion and work ethic for making Matchroom Pool not only successful as a "business" but to make the players a lot more money than they have been and with the chance to have this thing get bigger than anybody dreamed of. Look what just happened recently, Shane Van Boeing on 60 Minutes and Fedor Gorse on Joe Rogan. The audience of those two shows in less than a month is in the millions. I believe this will be the next big boom in pool like what came from The Color of Money. Did you watch any of the World 9 Ball Championships that just finished yesterday hosted by Matchroom Pool with $60,000 to the winner? It was fantastic!. Don't be to worried about this being run like a business, every major sports team on earth is a business and it's seams to be working ok for them.

I've thought that for years!! Look at how much other sports pay their Champions, like Tennis or Golf!! Especially at a Major event like a US OPEN. I watched this tournament on DAZN. Last year I criticized Matchroom Pool for under par commentary and interruptions during play. There were too many "amateur hour" moments. Not so with this production. The 2023 World Pool Championship was far more polished. The high level of production, the lighting, the commentary, and referees all did a superlative job. For decades pool commentary lagged behind the excellence we hear for both golf and tennis. No more. The commentary by Jeremy Jones and Karl Boyes was brilliant. They did not draw attention to themselves but enhanced the pool watching experience. They were both calm, probing, intelligent, and every word was focused on the players and the table. I argue that both Jeremy Jones and Shane Van Boening are the two most important people in American cue sports today. There were a couple of hiccups, however. One being was when the match between Shane Van Boening vs. Duong Quoc Hoang were tied on the hill at 10 -10, Matchroom cut to an interview with Mario He. I love Mario but, c'mon, hill-hill? Hopefully, hiccups such as this will be ironed out in the future. Pool has long deserved recognition but was always the forgotten step-child of sports. Matchroom Pool is changing this perception. Last but not least, congratulations to both Francisco Sanchez Ruiz and Mohammed Soufi. They had me in tears! I wish I could reach through this implacable screen and shower them with hugs and kisses. Their performances were as compelling and awesome as they are. ❤

Francisco Sanchez Ruiz displayed the performance in the tournament that consolidates why he is the World Number One coming into this World Championship and one of the most worthy World Champions based on what he has won most recently, including the World Cup of Pool, the US Open and the Mosconi Cup. His nickname not just El Ferrari but also the Rafael Nadal of World pool. For Mohammad Soufi, he is the third Arab or Muslim player in as many years to get to at least a Semi-Final, something nobody thought at all would be here, like Morocco and South Korea when they reached a FIFA World Cup Semis.
