I remember learning this song and all about lowry and salfords heritage in school. Makes me proud to be from Salford. Ordsall born and bred, still live there now. My son has just started learning about Lowry in school and it's great to be able to share what I learnt when I was young, I think all children should be taught about it because lowrys art reflects the time, poor families, poor health etc etc. Lowrys house still stands today, on station rd swinton. Sparking clogs was great fun, as a kid I used to spark my Grandads clogs! Clogs and other shoes often had Blakeys metal tips in the heels and toes and you would bang them against the corner stones of buildings, especially at dusk, when you could see sparks fly in the dull light.

His art reminds me a little of the art of the Norwegian artist E. Munch. A lovely tribute song. The lyrics really do tell a story.
