Calling it "Amazing Art with matchsticks" does not do Patrick Acton's sculptures justice. Over the past 40 years, this Iowa native has been building some of the world's biggest and complicated matchstick sculptures. While some of the larger ones are in "Ripley's Believe it of Not Museums", many are in his own museum "Matcshstick Marvels" down the road from his home in Gladbrook, Iowa. Incredibly, he's made them all in his tiny basement workshop in his home. He estimates that he has used over 7.5 million matchsticks in his career. His most impressive builds include the State Capitol building, a huge Millenium Falcon complete with lights and working landing gear, a locomotive that kids can actually climb into, Hogwarts from Harry Potter and many many more. While most people would build a couple models, Patrick has over 100, each unique and spectacular not to mention impressive.
To find out more and to visit the museum, check out his website at:

@misa smith people just say "rip (insert most recent celeb death)" just to be part of the crowd and basically beg for likes, it's not a new thing. The sad part is when people do that 80% of the time the person hasn't even seen or heard of any of the celebs work.

It’s the definition of “labour of love” an artist who sells his art will always Doubt the value of his work because he can’t Justify the monetary value because art is subjective but if it’s just for the enjoyment of others and himself in Experiencing their appreciation then an artist can Justify it’s value and appreciate his own work, it’s just my personal opinion.

This is genuine art. This sort of stuff is what should be displayed in the likes of the Louvre. The talent & skill put out here is un-matched. Anyone can take a blank canvas or paper & splatter on a bit of paint while calling it a piece of art. Very few people in the world can do this regardless of how long they've practiced.

I imagine for him it doesn't require any patience at all - he gets into a flow state and loses himself in the work for hours at a time. If he didn't need to eat, sleep, go to the bathroom or attend to other chores, I bet he could happily exist forever in a semi-conscious trance/zen state while putting matchsticks together.

I love how un-precious he is with his work. He talks about letting kids play with them, he's breaking stuff and picking things up, and nothing is sealed away. This is what a trust artist is. He's interested in sharing his love with anyone and everyone and not through 3 inches of glass.
@bossboss966
@bossboss966 4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the person. Would you risk someone possibly screwing up your work that you spent days, week, if not months on? Not every art is made to be played with or touched, they're meant to be admired. They're not 'precious' about their work, they just want to maintain the fruit of their labour and cherish it--and there isn't anything wrong with that. Sure, this man lets his kids play with it and whatnot--but that's why he made them in the first place. It's not that he isn't attached or so 'precious' as you say he is to his work, it's just part of the purpose why he makes them. Just cause one leaves their work in the open to be touched and the other puts it behind a thick glass doesn't mean either should be undermined. They both have the same end-goal of sharing their love to others, just different ways.

it’s natural to have talents and interests! Everyone has them even if you don’t know yet what they are! What’s not ok it telling people they can’t find their passions and/or pursue just that! A healthy relationship should respect that and allow time to yourself to do such things! A good partner should encourage you to do what you love, not hinder pursuing what you love in life and that which is a part of you.
